Agreed. I was curious, so I went right to the page. It's okay, though. I think we have all or most of us have been there. Let's see some more px, though! Okay?

You should not post here, you definitely do not have the proper mindset to listen to what people really think.
In the past I too have been bothered by a repetitive critisism. But what bothered me is that so many people took the time to point out the same thing. Not that is it wasted my time, but that I wasted thiers. If you really have the expirience you say you do, than you should know what the problems were with this photo, and fixed it before you submitted it. If you are going to submit such an obviously flawed photo, you are going to get a lot of comments on the obvious. |

The problem with this statement is no one sees what the other comments are while they themselves are commenting. This is just like "how could you post a flower shot? there are so many others flowers in this challenge." - type of remarks. I, personally, like going back to see that other people may have felt the same way as I did when they viewed a photo. Let's me see I'm not off base (or that I am off base). You may not like it when the comments are coming in - but it is actually a good thing.

ya know eb, i went and took a look at you're comments....i failed to see one that could be misconstrude as an insult. if you want to see insults, go take a gander at the comments i recieved on my entry in the something old challenge. if you'd recieved some like those, then i could understand this rant. i also fail to see where you work has to do with anything. i understand your frustrations, and i know how it is to get comments that are far from constructive critisism. but if you're going to be this thin skinned, and take offense after one challenge that you didn't recieve nothing but attaboys....then maybe you should think about keeping your photography a hobby. I posted a similar rant a few weeks ago...yes I too said i'd never post again....but i also want to make a better picture...and i'll continue to post when i can to try and better my photography to the point that i no longer get the immature, rude, insulting comments...i'd much rather get them here, than from a professional critic that would insult me in a national publication the whole world would see, and probably using words i wouldn't even understand. if you feel you don't want to post, fine, but you did get one thing straight...if you don't post, you won't learn....think about it. hope to see more of your work. I liked the dog, it reminded me of an old friend who passed before her time. hope you'll have that one for years to come. Tom |

evilbunnee, sorry that you didn't get the comments you wanted on your picture. Don't quit uploading pictures just because people didn't like the photo you submitted. You might find a challenge that you have the best idea for and you may win. We can take little hints and suggestions about every picture that is entered. I recently submitted my first picture for the pencil challenge and it's not doing well at all right now. There are a lot of others on the site that are a lot better than mine. It's given me some idea's for the next challenge. |

As I already said, I was taking the comments out of context and I have already apologized for being such a baby. About two days after I took this picture of my puppy (which contrary to what comments said, was only 3 months old...she was not a dachsund, but a lab/dachsund mix, which is why she looks bigger than a regular dachsund puppy), my puppy was shot by some teenagers who roamed thru the neighborhood killing pets for fun. I was being a little thin skinned when I posted about the comments because I was upset about my sweet puppy being taken from me, and was really upset about everyone thinking that the picture wasnt of a puppy.
I have already apologized, and I have already said I was wrong for doing so. I hope everyone can forgive me. |

I was only joking when I posted that, hence the smiley at the end. I apologize that you mistook me. The comment was actually in regards to reading other peoples comments on past contests, where it seemed like every single picture had the comment "remember the rule of thirds"...I was just trying to lighten things up after I was being a big whiney baby about comments on my pups picture. Again, sorry I was misconstrued.

Actually, they were caught the day it was done. One of my neighbors saw them do it, and apparently tackled one of them. Several people (7 in all) had an animal either killed or injured.
If I would have been there when it happened, I assure you, something very nasty would have happened to them.
What dumbfounds me, though, is that these kids have grown up in this neighborhood for years. I didn't know them personally, but i have seen them around for probably as long as I can remember.
It is really disheartening to see such meanness in the world. |

Hey Evil, I can relate. I'm new here, too. I've only submitted two pictures so far. It is tough, but I've read a LOT of comments, not only about my pictures, but what they say to each other, too. If you stick around for a while you'll start to notice who the "regulars" are and who the real photographers are and then, I think, you can begin to put the comments into perspective. Some people are just jerks and others really DO try to offer helpful critiques. Hang in there.....I will.

Evil
I am really really sorry to hear about your puppy, that's just disgusting and it does beggar belief doesn't it? What the hell were their motivations? (Yes it does matter, because unless we understand how regular kids came to behave as monsters how can we as a society stop it from happening again?) Kind Regards Kavey

evilbunnee,
I am very sorry to hear about your puppy.
I have a 10-month-old lab/shepherd that brightens up each day. I don't know what I would do without her.
Now if I may vent briefly ΓΆ€“ As for the kids that did this to your puppy and to the other animals, they need a big ol' can of whoop a** opened up on them. I truly hope that some sort of punishment is inflicted on these kids, legal or not. It is a fine line between a person who has the capacity to maliciously hurt an animal, especially another person's domesticated pet, and a person who has no respect for their fellow man.
Whew ΓΆ€“ Sorry, Just had to get that off my chest.

evil, i'm really sorry to hear about your pup, too, but it disturbs me just as much to read all the comments about what should be done to those kids. yes, they should be punished. but, please, while sticking to the law. perpetrating violence just doesn't solve anything. or are we trying to become those kids' role models?

I'm sorry about your puppy too evil....there is no sense in that type of behavior from human beings, no matter what age. As for punishing them, it's interesting to note a documentary I watched several years ago on serial killers. One of the so called "warning" signs of someone who has a tendency towards murder is the act of being cruel and malicious towards animals (while they are children).. i.e. killing them for fun. I also believe the society we live in today desensitizes everyone. We see death and war and murder on t.v., movies and in real life every day.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It really has been hard to deal with, and the images are images I dont think I will ever forget.
I agree that perpetuating violence with more violence is very wrong, and not something we should wish for. Of course, personally, I want to wring this kids necks for what they did to my pup, and other animals in the area. Of course, it is hard for me to step back and see anything other than that. But I agree, I hope that something can be done that is fair, and makes them change.
All of your words have really helped, and I appreciate every one. I hope that as I am posting more and reading more, that we can get to know one another better.
Thank you again, all of you (((hugs to all))) |

Really sorry to hear about the puppy evilb. Its now easy to see why you got upset about some of the comments made about your photo, some of the comments here can be hurtful if you post an image that has sentimental value to yourself. I really hope you continue to enter future challenges, as I am sure you will learn a lot from the people on this site (I know I have). You just have to take the occasional annoying/rude comments on the chin, keeping in mind that many people are learning to critique photos the same way they are learning to take photos. And hopefully you will become as addicted to the site as sooooo many others.
Best wishes tom
