That is one of my firsts shots. I am a new member, and I would love to hear about your opinions on my picture. It is taken in Barcelona, Spain, and the background is a museum. I liked the detail of the lamppost, as a frame or a door to Art. Anyway I have to improve my pictures. Can you help me?

Thanks, anders.
In the edition, I worked on the lighting and the dark areas. I wanted it better, although. I had to worked on the wall at the background and I don't know if a bit more highlighting would work.
Thanks for your nice comment. |

Left a comment. I like this shot very much. It's a completely personal POV, so to speak. The dying flower is a fine grace note (upper left).

To Bear Music.
Thanks R for your pleasant comment. I was very lucky with the detail of the flower. In fact, I like a lot making shots to architecture but I know that life (in this case death) is very important to give "something" (a bonus, if you want to say), to the picture. Thanks again

Given this example of your work I think you will do very well at DPC. Don't know if this is intentional but what I like best about it is the contrast between the foreground blue of the lampost and the browns of the background. That draws the eye immediately to the poster.
The composition is quite nice and follows the rule of thirds well. The overall technical quality of this image is good.
If you succeed in your goal to improve from this start then there will be DPC ribbons coming your way in the future.

That is really a good reason for me to keep on. Thanks!
I tried to make a good composition, although I don't know much about "the rule of the thirds", I have started reading about photography very recently, but I hope I will learn soon.
Ribbons are really difficult, but I will try and try in order to improve my pictures. Thanks a lot.

1-My best advice to you is never submit an image you are not proud of.
If it is not the best it can be and/or you cannot make it so to your own personal satisfaction then don't submit.
You'd be surprised how many forum posts contain something like, "I didn't expect this picture to do well, but..." and then proceed to complain about its poor acceptance by the DPC community. Expect the best and give nothing less.
2-Don't expect your "best" or highest quality images to win or even get your highest scores.
Just about every image that wins has high technical quality, there is little difference in that regard between the top finishing images in a challenge.
The difference has moreso to do with the unpredicatable quality of "meeting the challenge" than the technical aspects of the image itself. You will discover that some of your "best" work will not be rewarded, but that because of this factor lesser ones will do unexpectedly good.
The trick is to put both quality and "meeting the challenge" together in the same image. :)
I wish you well on your quest!

It's a very nice photo, IMO. It shows you have good eye for making pictures.
Keep on shooting. |
