Now, today is the anniversary of the Blizzard of '78 apparently, (which I was fortunate to miss as I lived in New Mexico at the time) here in Massachusetts. Every year we are subjected to the stories of how they rec'd something on the order of 2ft + of snow within 33 hours.

LOL.. poor you Jacko!!! Looks like this happens quite frequently, and without the pomp and circumstance.

"Happy" shoveling! :0)

Karen, yes it does happen, usually once per year.

We received 5 1/2 feet of snow in 1991 in 24 hours in my home town of Moncton, New Brunswick. I think there are two more DPCers, Refracted and KimInNB, who will testify to that. They're from Moncton too.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is one pile of snow. That's an average of 5 1/2 feet ... so you had drifts of 8 feets at some spots.

Yep,

I lived in Moncton at the time too. They had to shut the university down for close to a week, and we had to dig for cars with our hands to try and find them underneath the snowbanks without scratching them.

Haven't seen anything like it since....

oh man did i remember that.. i was only 11 at the time.. but god that was fun. I could walk on the roof without jumping or anything.. just walking on the snow, and all of a sudden "hey, i'm on the roof!". The snow was drifted so much in the street that the plow couldn't even pass. The drift was over 15 feet tall, and 30 feet wide.. the plow just slammed it .. stopped a bit.. turned around and the snow stayed like that for 3 days. Until they got the huge snow blower to clear that in 5 minutes :). Atleast i got a week of school that year. As for this year.. i'm getting sick of the snow and the cold feet trying to get that "perfect" picture.

i think i posted this in an other thread, but here are my storm pics from the last week:

Would this be a bad time to bring up we had 80 degrees here in Dallas last Sunday?

Yep - I remember that weekend perfectly. What is it about Feb 1st weekend? Last weekend in Moncton we had an ice storm that knocked out power for most of the city and surroundings. I was without for 2 1/2 days (thank goodness for woodstoves!!) and some people still don't have power 5 days later. Yikes!!

It did make it pretty though!!
