I hope that all the recent drama will subside and we can get back to why we all migrated here in the first place.

i missed it while it was ongoing too but all this drama with this crystal girl...see the "why would someone say such a thing" thread...
lol. well i've got to go, and miss some more drama i guess. ;)

I dont see this as a photography only site:) I see it as a place to seek help whatever your subject but leaning more towards photography:)

ive been curious about this because i'm sick and tired of using my scalp burning halogen work lamps when shooting macros!

OK, I'm totally in the dark here, there are flashes specifically for macro work? Or are you guys talking about using a regular flash while doing macro work?
I really prefer natural light :)

you could save some $$ and just get an off-camera cord if you already own a flash. of if you're a Nikon boy, use your wireless settings

I think they are these funky little ring flashes you can attach to your camera. I know that's how they work for underwater macrophotography...

I'm a Nikon girl :)
So it's not a special flash, but a normal flash (I have the SB600, works great as a remote wireless).
I thought you guys were talking about some other contraption.

Ah, OK, yes, I've heard of those ring flashes. Somewhere I saw a bunch of butterfly shots made with the aid of a ring flash - they were just beautiful.
Has anyone here tried these ring flashes?

It's a bit different than that Tim. If you use a normal flash gun hand-held, you're going to get serious shadows. Even with reflectors all over the place, the camera lens is so close to the subject that you can't get light onto it.
The ring-flash is the best way but they're expensive. Even a light tent doesn't work that well as again the lens just gets in the way and casts shadows
