â€Â¦which DPC user would you like to have tag along with you for a day or two because you feel he/she has the ability to make it to the next level with a little help from (YOU) an accomplished photograph?
We have posted who we would like to tag along with for a day now lets get your opinion on who you would like to help make it to the next level.

Nick Servian is someone I have admired of all the professionals I have worked with. He stands out for his eye and his knowledge of light. He paints with light, great photographs are painted with light ... I want to understand and learn how to do that.
Brett
Thanks Rikki, I did it too on the original now. Not sure how comfortable I am to have you playing with my linkie though.

This is not what Southern is asking us, though; he's asking those of us who have been mentioned on the other thread who WE'D like to take under our wings for a day because we think we have something to offer them.
I need to think about this; I've been working all night and I need to sleep.

Well, I've thought about this a lot. I suspect there will not be many replies, basically because it's a LOT less comfortable to tell people you're "better" than they are than it is to tell them you look up to them. There are a LOT of talented folks in DPC ready to take that "next step". I'd actually be willing to "work" with about any of them that felt I could be of value to them.
However, there's ONE person who comes to mind to whom I can comfortably say "I'd love to take you under my wing for a weekend!", and that's Rikki. He's a talented young man who I happen to know is an architect, and I earned my living shooting architecture for a quarter century, so I have a lot of experience and tricks I could pass on there.

it's not that i would pick anyone or expect anyone to pick me. all the same, if i'm not editing or handling admin crap or being a daddy, i'm out shooting something, and if anyone ever wants to come along, all they have to do is let me know. |

Interesting idea...but, in addition to what Robert said, once someone names a protoge they un-name everyone else.
So, Bear...you don't think I have talent and potential, do you? I knew it! You like Rikki better than me!

I would offer, but I'm afraid the only thing I can bring to the table is my talent for being able to change a diaper in under 30 seconds.
(You could take a picture of that!)

I think what this calls for is a get-together where there is one photographer that is a leader. Not necessarily better than others but someone who has a lot of technique to share. This will give a chance for few people to tag along listen and ask questions.
KaDi: I can teach you how to use Nikon camera :)

That's basically my point, yes, plus the fact that Rikki is a sure fit for my very specific skills because he is an architect who is growing as a photographer. I may actually have something of USE for him. It's all academic anyway 'cuz he's a continent away from me.
Unless he wants to fly me out for some private tutorializing? RIKKI? How about it? Such a deal!
R.
And let me add that I have repeatedly said I keep "open house" for DPCers here on Cape Cod, and even have a spare room. One couple from here in the last year has taken me up on it, so I suspect I'm not a very-desired "mentor" anyway :-) But the offer's still open. Want to pick my brain? Bring food...

Careful bear, my wife and I are planning an East Coast/New England road trip for either this year or next.... We may take you up on that offer!

Nah... she has a little point and shoot with some interest in photography... she's even a user here (very inactive). |

Over the course of the past few months, I've started watching a couple of growing DCPers. I'd love to have a chance to play "mentor for a day" to
Shaver and kdsprog. Both of these members have shown fire and and a quest for knowledge. I admire that in them. I watch and follow their growth.

I believe that if someone were to follow me, they'd be highly disappointed... lol... I'm a very simplistic guy with no big-money dreams. Just like to have fun and do what I do.
Ofcourse if I ever win the lottery, I might change my style a little ;-)

As the NY GTG can attest to, I'm very boring to shoot with. I take forever and am always lagging behind the group.
And if you ask the Fossil Rim GTG folks, they will have no idea since I never even took a photo the whole day. :P
...but I'm always happy to share some knowledge with who ever I shoot with. ;o)
