Oh, I love this one. I love just the eyes keeping color. Great effect!
I'm sorry if some don't reply to you. There are many situations where I would trade spaces with you. :)

Looks pretty good. I have to say I'm not the best at critiquing portraits but what it's worth I think you did a good job. I'm not to keen on keeping the eyes colored and B&W the rest of the photograph even though she has great eyes. Seems that the skin tone is not smooth as it could be but not bad.
What kind of picture were you reaching for here? Happy, sad, temper, lonely, etc.? The reason I ask, with the tight frame and PP it gives me an emotion of someone sad or lonely.

I am going to have to be honest with you. The "paint" or whatever filter you used doesn't look very good. I would suggest when taking portraits, keep the distorting filters on the background and not your subject. I am sure that the original is much better. This effect makes your image just look like a poorly taken photograph. I do however, like the crop and overall composition of the picture. I also like the expression on her face. |

ty all for the input.
Mandy I didn't use paint. I dodged around the eyes to lighten them up. I'm just trying new things. |

It's a very well composed shot, but add me to the "don't care for the eyes" group. It just looks too unnatural, and IMO, detracts from an otherwise excellent shot. |

Well, personally, I think you did a very wonderful job.
As you will notice, there are many photos of animals and such where all is desat but the eyes. I personally feel it is a very impressive effect. I also think you used the dodge tool very well, and captured a wonderful shot. I am not one that cares much for portriats, but given what you did to yours, I can say I like it very much. You did a great job!

She's darling. And something else I have done also in the past by request, is add different color eyes. Some want purple on their cats or dogs, or more green to the eyes of their son, etc. It is fun to play with the eye colors!

I like the shot, it's well done. My one gripe is with the hair strand lying on her cheek and falling down to her chin. It creates an unnatural framing effect which detracts from the lovely natural curve of her face, and the span of hair at the end keeps drawing my eye away.

I am all for trying new things. How else do we grow and learn? It still looks very obvious to me that you used some other processing besides dodge and burn because the original photo is in focus and the edited one is very blurry and distorted. |

Well the black and white program I used was from virtual photographer if you have heard of that. I can't remember which setting it was on there. Hence the blurred effect. The dodging of the eyes I did myself. |

To me it looks like edge preserving smooth was used in psp. Maybe a little overdone.
Her eyes are interesting. Makes her look a lot older than I suspect she is. I like the original best. I'm not a fan of partial desat, but your application is ok. The hair on her chin is distracting. |

and yes it did make her look a lot older. Actually she looks older than she is normally anyways- really sucks for her lol. She just turned 5 in December and people are usually asking if she's 6 or 7. Poor girl! |

man i really love the sepia color too-and i don't think the hair on her chin distracts, only pulls attention in towards her face |

Well the thing with the hair is I can't get rid of it. Two I don't do portraits or poses with her. No point. I take what I see and how I see it.
That particular shot she was by the front window and I have several more from that same time.
Thanks for the input. |

My two cents? I would use the 2nd version and leave jsut a hint of color in the eyes. Plus crop a touch more out of the foreground.
Even so it is a great shot IMHO. |
