Just realized that yesterday was pay day and I had even more over-time on this check! Yipee - that meant I could go ahead and order another lens.
As much as I would love to have a super wide L glass, I can't swing that.
I've spent the past couple of hours looking over Sigma and Tokina. I decided on the Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM. Can't wait for it to get here and try it out.
Working overtime is starting to be a lot of fun! I'm putting in 8 extra hours over the next 2 days....gotta build that camera fund back up now. :-)

I agree the 17-40L would be great - but it's a $1000 more than the Sigma.
From everything I've read and the pics I seen from the Sigma, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Linda...The Canon 17-40 is only $679 at B&H, which is only a couple hundred more than the Sigma 17-35, which is $459. With all your overtime you're racking up, maybe there's still time to change your order. :)

FM has the 17-40 f/4L all over the place in the neighborhood of $575.
Not that there's anything wrong with the Sigma, I've heard good things about it too! =] |

even so, I really wanted something super wide. The Sigma is a lot wider angled lens.
Canon 17-40L = 74-29°
the Sigma I ordered = 103.7 to 63.4 Degrees

You made a great choice. When I was looking for my last lens I did a shoot-off between the Canon L and the Sigma 24-70. Sigma won on sharpness, contrast and color about 75% of the same shots. I also own "L" lenses but in that case the several hundred dollars just didn't get a better lens. And Sigma has a longer warantee I believe. You'll be happy.

17-35 or 17-40 - same thing. The angle will be the same on the wide end.

And while 17 is fairly wide it is not all that wide an a 20D. A 12-24 or 11-18 or 10-22 is ultra wide.

well the wide angle was the big seller - I like shoooting landscapes and just have not been happy with what my current lens produces. I hate having to take several shots and stitch them together. Stitching can be fun - but also a pain. The first place I'll probably be taking it is to the top of SugarLoaf Mountain.

You'll notice a big difference from 28 to 17. I had a tamron 28-80 and got the sigma 18-50 and there is a huge difference, particularly indoors.
i want a true ultra wide and a true macro as my next two lenses...but i need $1000 for those, and the new canon 50D is due next month...and i want some alien bees.
THEN i'll be done for a while...yeah right.
Overtime...I forget what that is LOL. I have been on 3 days since before xmas, go back to 4 next week. My last job had the potential of OT, the one before that was salary/commission, 50 hours expected and more than that often, with no OT. Just free coffee ;)
