I'm looking around to buy a decent camera bag and so far I like the LowePro Stealth Reporter 650AW. Has anyone got this bag? If so what do you think about it - good points bad point? |

I don't have one, however, I have a nice 'aged' Billingham bag, whilst its great for short outings (without too much gear) carrying it on 1 shoulder for long periods gets a bit tough. Easier to get into than a backpack though (its horses for courses).

Thanx Ecce. I am looking at a large bag to store all my gear together and the Stealth Reporter looks like my best bet. I'll look at the Billingham, I haven't heard of that one. If I go out on the streets I am thinking of buying the Slingshot which looks quite good. Anyone got that one? |

G'day Gary,
You've probably seen these .. I have one ... terrific build quality, plenty of options for size & specs.

I've just been talking to a guy who has a stealth reporter, he loves it and uses it for customer meets/shoots, still has a backpack for walking in the 'landscape' with lots of gear.
Billingham are kind of 'retro', mine is between the 335 and 445. Well used second hand are my fav, new bags stand out a lot.

I ordered one and I returned it......it's HUGE. There was no way I was gonna be able to carry that bag fully loaded on one shoulder.

Huge as in nearly half my size! But then again, I'm only 5'1.5" hehe. It is possible to put your laptop in it too. I bought the Computrekker instead. It's big too but much easier to carry since it's a backpack. Like you, I just wanted something big to put all my gear in for travelling. I have a smalller bag for actual walking around.

I have the 650, and I agree, it's cavernous. It'll hold a pretty big laptop and a plethora of lenses. I use it mostly as a "mothership" to hold stuff I don't carry all the time or if I'm travelling and need to take my laptop.
Most of the time I carry a Stealth Reporter 200, which is a lot smaller, but won't hold a laptop. In my 200, I have 10D w grip, 28-135, Sigma 12-24, Sigma 105, Canon 85 1.8, Canon 50 1.8, Peleng 8mm and 420EX flash.
I'm at work now, but if you like, I can take some pics of my 650 when I get home, just let me know.

I was considering this bag when I needed a larger capacity than the Stealth Reporter 200AW, which was already a pain in the neck. I usually carry two DSLRs, two zooms, a 1.4x and a normal lens plus the usual paraphernalia, which adds up to quite a bit. There is no way I can carry this over the shoulder without, in the long run, hurting myself.
I now carry everything (including a 12" iBook when travelling) in my trusted LoewePro Photo Trekker Classic, which is a backpack. I take it anywhere, without pain and securely, feeling somewhat sorry for the SR 650 shooters I encounter. ;-/

I just got my new Lowepro Mini Trekker AW backpack yesterday. Loaded it up and ready to go. No problem holding the Canon 20D with battery pack attached, 70-200 f4 lens attached, 580 flash, Sigma 24-70 EX DG lens in inside pocket and room left for CF cards, business cards, cleaning supplies and a few other things. I also have the normal camera case but the 70-200 will not fit attached and I really like to have both hands free instead of holding a bag or laying it down while doing the walking candid pics. Happy here. |

Zeusen long time no see! How is it?
I am not looking for a bag to carry around with me, I will get the Slingshot for that. I am looking for a bag I can put all my gear in and just throw in the car now and then. It is okay if it is big and "uncarriable". All I need to know, is the Stealth Reporter sturdy and okay for packing a lot of stuff into. |

If you don't plan on carrying it around then why not go for a solid case? something you can safely tether at home or whilst away?

I have the stealsh reporter 300 aw and I love it. I've just sold my stealth 200 aw to get the minitreker for nature walks. The 300 is very good. Very well bilt (all of them) and the top pocket is a must when you want to grab a lens to quickly change it withought putting the bag in to the floor. I use it for weddings and other works. It is filled with 1 D70 with 18-70mm, 1 sb 800, 1 70-300mm, 1 105mm f2.8, 1 50mm f1.8, extra-batteries, and all the extra and extra-plus gear. I can fit in (not very confortable) another d70 if I have too.
It's a must.

Here's a few pics of me with my 650. You can see I've added the waistbelt which makes it much easier to carry.
Hope this helps and don't mind the model, it was a long day at work.

Yes, I have this very bag.
I have in this bag..
1 - Nikon DX2
1 - 70-200mm VR
1 - 17-55mm
1 - PC 85mm
2 - SB800 flashes
3 - Radio transmitters
1 - Nikon Coolwalker
1 - Ibook 12" Mac
1 - Sekonic 358 Light meter
Assorted Pens, memory cards, business cards, at least 4-4packs of batteries, Polarizers, nuetral density filters, sync cords, usb cords, cotton gloves.
Heavy..not really. I wouldn't go hiking in the woods with it loaded like this but when I need to throw my camera in car for a quick shoot or for a sports shoot..I know I will have what I need.
Plus, with its rain cover, I have been sitting outside in the pouring rain in a camping chair, rain poncho and my gear bag able to shoot outdoor events ( I can make gear changes under the rain poncho).

I have the 400 AW. I really like the bag but I have a problem with it. The sewing on teh padded portion of the shoulder strap is coming undone and LowePro is completely unresponsive to my requests for warranty replacement via their website. Because of this, I suggest staying away from LowePro unfortunately. Their gear is great but if you have a problem with it, they are going to ignore you.
