Not really, You'll just be under the watchful eye of Sony now. ;)

That's what I mean.

It doesn't matter that much, I guess. As long as companies continue to churn out newer and better cameras at competitive prices, I'd remain a happy consumer :)

Canon and Nikon merger? Nah... Please dont. I can't stand to see photographers standing together - they resemble a tripod :p

Yup, Nikon and Canon will merge to form Nikanon.
It's pro lenses will have black and white stripes like a zebra, black (for Nikon) and white (for Canon, and will be called "Z" lens.

:)

not such a bad thing really.. Nikon get a full frame sensor and Canon get a metal body.. good deal.

As for Minolta, they been going down down and after they merged with Konica they slipped another notch (not in quality dont get mad, financial things i mean) now they have Sony backing them they are in SAFER hands I feel.

My favorite merger would be Nikon/Zeiss that would be nice aye?

What happens to Nikon if Sony decide they want a period of exclusive rights for their sensors in their dslrs ?

bazz.

favourite merger? hehe... how about microsoft and a digital camera company? each time the shutter release button is pressed, you get a prompt on the LCD saying "Are you sure you want to take the photo?" and you'll have to click on the "YES" button to continue.

Nikon will most probably use their own designs from now on anyway.

LOL, harsh but fair.

With Sony and Zeiss working together, could this mean Zeiss lenses for the DSLRs that would mount on Konica Minolta cameras?
01/19/2006 05:12:15 AM · #18
What a sad day, my first SLR 20 years ago was a Minolta

I now have a good selection of quality glass for the Minolta mount, I really hope Sony don't screw up. It doesn't fill me with optimism though. At least (from what I can gather) Minolta will still carry on making most of the camera, it will have a Sony badge though. :-(

It may not matter a lot in itself but it should set off alarms for all camera buyers. K-M was not a major player but they were an innovator with the Anti-Shake system and other advances. As the number of competitors drops the incentive to make better cameras at realistic prices drops with it. Camera buyers as a group are not a very savvy bunch of consumers, and this will not help them.

Or you get a message saying: "You have performed an illegal operation, the camera will now shut down" and you get the blue screen of death and the camera reboots itself...

Don't let them fool you; all inventions are widespread but locked in closets. They wait until everyone owns that 'newest' toy and then announce the next invention...so no anti-shake with canon and nikon just means to choose not to use it..yet.. but make antishake lenses...

No thanks! I would prefer my camera be fit for the purpose it's intended. I also want to own my pictures rather than license them from M$, since they don't allow ownership now days.

So what does Minolta do now if their not making cameras or film? Sounds to me like its just Konika now.

Kodak IS in the DSLR market, as it makes all the sensors for the current 4/3rds cameras (currently Olympus). Leica/Panasonic is rumored to introduce a 4/3rds camera sometime this year. Also a digital M camera is in the rumor mill so I wouldn't count out Leica as yet.

Olympus is introducing a new (non-slr?) 4/3rds camera, the E-330 on Jan 26, which will obviously have an ELF by their teaser ad.. So with the sophistication of the firmware upgradeable 4/3rds lenses I would not count out a Leica 4/3rds rangefinder.
