Is it just me, or is the voting a bit biased for this contest. I dont quite get it, but hey, guess i'm not supposed too.

Bear_Music grew up in Southern California in a beach town in the 60's and he is entitled to the "dude" by birthright. He was also one of the original hippies and he has the inalienable right to say "far out!" and "Peace!" It's not his fault that he went to a British boarding school from 1957-1960 and an Ivy League university (his parents made him do it!) and was inflicted with a pretentious vocabulary and a penchant for espistemological debate.

*laughs* Sorry Bear, I'm with mavrik on this one. My idea, right or wrong, was always someone more refined, and definitely did not include 'dude'.

;)

edited to add: Bear, can you edit your original post in this thread to contain the link for voting, so that people don't have to wade through all the posts looking for it? Just a thought.

When you reach the upper echelon of vocabulary, culture, life, and so on. I believe that individual not only has the right to resort to slang and sometimes EBONIKS, it is thier duty unto the world and to themselves, to show thier playfull nature. Besides, what fun is being pretentious if 70 percent of the world cannot communicate with you.

I mean, don't we all just have a common need for affiliation:)

By the way, I noticed that we alll have an average of 15 votes......... I guess Bear was right about this being a "Microcosm" of DPC.

I'm not sure I'd EVER apply the adjective "refined" to myself, but thanks for the compliment. Excellent suggestion re: voting link. Original post edited to include it. I have my forums set to show latest post first, so it didn't occur to me.

Here's how we round up some votes. ;-)

If you are interested in the advanced editing challenge concept as done in these contests, please vote. We need votes from people OTHER than those who entered.

As the keeper of the original rules, I've amended the original ruleset as follows to provide an incentive for registering/voting:

Rule 9. Please register on the contest gallery and then vote (your votes are still anonymous). People who register and vote will be given priority over people who don't as entrants in the next contest. (Though you still have to toss your name in the ring when requested.)

Rule 10. The current contest coordinator will always be offered a slot in the next contest as a courtesy.

Original Rules

I'll have to copy the set over to the gallery eventually. (This presumes it doesn't start to bog down my server, and since it's small, I don't think it will.)

The reason I've asked you to register is to give us cumulative list of participants/voters as we move forward.

It would be helpful as well to chime in here after voting (mainly because it will keep the thread visible!)

Hopefully, you agree with me that it's fair to pick the next participant pool from the present voters. Seems to me it gives people a chance to see how it works before actually entering, so it has other benefits as well.

You can vote on the entries ***here***

Neil,

I tried to register as Bear_Music and it said this username was already registered. I tried to log in and it said the password (same one I always use) was invalid. I tried to register as Robt_Ward using my same email address and it said this email address was already in use. Can you help me out here? I dont' rememebr having registered before, and if I had I know I'd have used the same password I always do for my social sites.

Robert--you emailed me and told me to register you as bear_music. So I did, with the password you gave me. I sent you an email after that too--will resend.

Oh, nevermind, I figured that part out too; it was so I wouldn't BE giving out my "normal" password to anyone, not even you LOL.

Yup, that was it; used my backup PW and I'm in. Thanx.

Oh yeah, that was when you were gonna set me up with admin privileges so I could load these up, but we ended up having you do it :-) Hmmm... So why didn't I give you my normal password? Sheesh...

R.

So you wouldn't have the key to all my identities, of course, duh :-) I used my backup PW and I'm in.

Robert, you may have used same password, try again, this time using the lowercase form of your name. bear_music instead of Bear_Music. I don't know, but it might make a difference.

Good luck! :)

edited to take out all those quotes :D

Hey, is there any way to change the votes?

Sorry, I stopped being interested in this because no one was actually using much advanced editing, and it seemed those that did something I would consider advanced got dinged.

I could be totally off base, I don't know.
01/14/2006 10:26:59 PM · #98
Sorry, that seems to be a limitation of "gallery"--once you vote, your vote can't be changed. You should still be able to leave comments though, if you want to offer encouragement or criticism.

I like the idea of these things, it'd be really nice if they could integrate it into the DPC voting system. Same base image, different results and voters pick the nicest end result. There'd be a lot more participation that way too, I think

Too much, probably. I don't think the super-size DPC system would function real well if we asked the voters to rate 100+ variations of the same image :-) Can you imagine how subtle the distinctions would become?
