I was wondering what they CC deems a good critique? Is there an example that I may see?

If you look at the photo you will see my critique. You tell me if its good.

Here's a critique I did recently; there's no "judicial process" about what's a good critique and what's not, though.

Did you PM the person you did the critique on??? I couldn't help but noticed that it wasn't marked helpful and was wondering if the person knows you did it.

Both great critiques! Both unique but get the point across. Here is one I did a few days ago for practice. I would love some feedback in how to be more concise. I did get some ideas for you guys though..thanks

edit to add: are you a member of the CC Club??? and if so the why did you not make reference to that in you critique such as "**Critique Club**" or something similar???

This is an oldish critique (I've been a bad boy, and haven't done any lately) but it shows the format I use. The bold headings are from a template I have on my computer (complete with forum code) and I use the same topics each time. It helps guide my critique and ensures I comment on what needs to be commented upon. It also makes it hard to weasel out of talking about a specific point of a photograph. :)

I've gotten very complementary feedback from the people who recieve these critiques, so I guess it works.

edit: I forgot the link to the critique, but it's BradP's template anyway, and I see he posted to this thread, so just see his critquies below.

This is my very first critique...how'd I do? It was a fairly challenging photo, very abstract!

No, I am not a member of the CC. I had applied a few days ago and recieved a reply from Manic. I am new to the website and did provide any examples for him to review so I was turned down. He requested I get a few more challenges under my belt and post a few more comments and re-apply. So I am in the process complying with his request and will apply in a few weeks. I did however want to get some ideas of how you guys critique here on the site. I as of yet have not been critiqued as requested, but realize that this is because of the substantial cue the CC has at this time. I do appreciate you guys posting previous critiques!

Here is a REALLY old critique. An example without templates, just sort of rambling thoughts. Notice how nice the recipient was. I don't think there were helpful check boxes in those days. Compliments and thanks make us want to write more!

I've been pretty active in the CC now for about 3 years. There are a lot of examples in my Comments Given area. I don't have a template I use, simply because I want to know what stands out to me first, which would appear to be the major element of the photo. If I have a template which has 'lighting' at the top, then I'll be looking at lighting first, and not what REALLY stands out to me.
So, my critiques are unorganized to the naked eye, but really follow the order of importance regarding each individual photo.
Here's my most recent...

If it helps anyone, here is a random sample of a few I have done using my own template of sorts:

Always do, and he even responded with quite a bit of discussion. It's just one of those glitchy things, I guess, where the recipient doesn't think to check that box.

Dustin, you are on the right track. Keep up the good work, give us a yell in a couple weeks and I'm sure you'll have no problem being accepted to the CC. Thank you for your interest, and your effort.

That is a great critique and one I think the voters of that challenge needed to read before voting.

I've done quite a few by now, so feel free to browse through them on my Profile Page under Comments Made also.

I always PM the recipient of a Critique Comment. Sometimes they are marked helpful; sometimes not. The Critiques to new members that suggest images could use some help are usually the ones that don't seem to be 'helpful'. Not much I can do about that, except keep plugging away. Politely, and with a smile, of course.

I have always tried to do my critiques in my own way. I don't do good at following a template so to speak. The shot tells me how to critique it, for example:

Two shots that spoke to me differently and demanded that I take different approaches in their critiques...
