I just got home with my new Rebel XT, I also picked up the 75-300mm lens, 1gb cf card and card reader... now im just waiting for the battery to charge up. I will no longer be limited by my p&s!!! (oh no now i have no excuses for any poor shots) i cant wait for that battery to be ready!

Congrats! I am sure you will like it very much.

Congratulations. Before you go out into the 'wild' to shoot, make sure you understand everything about the camera. Read the manual, and learn. Having a dSLR has nothing to do with taking good pictures, but now you probably can't blame the camera ;-)

Take care and have fun.

Congrats on the new camera, hope you have a lot of fun with it.

Am I the only one who just pulled the battery out of the box and stuck it in the camera, and then used it for about 3 hours that day before it ran out? :P

Congratulations. Enjoy it!

A good time to say, "Start out right"--download Raw Shooter Essentials (it's free) and shoot RAW!

Mazeltov!
I've just been through the same myself, upgrading from my little teeny weeny Canon Ixus, to the Nikon D50 3 weeks ago, with great lenses too.
It's made the world of difference to my fun I'm having....just not to my scores - yet.
And yes, I just downloaded Rawshooter Essentials, and think thats the way to go.
And yesterday, I got my Gary Fong flash diffuser in the mail, and should go off right now to test how that works.

Congrats again, on your new asquisition.

It lets you work with an entire directory of RAW files, adjust them with the right amount of noise reduction, levels, etc. Then pick the one or ones you want to convert to JPEG, and it does them all at once. You can also store multiple settings per image file in a nice tabbed interface.

The Essentials is the basic version, pretty good. But they know eventually, you will want to spring for the Premium version, which allows you to specify crops, rotates, and do curves adjustments.

I did (and I already had Bibble, another similar program).

To some extent, all the talk about Adobe "Lightbox" applies to Raw Shooter; while it doesn't let you catalog, it does let you quickly go through and try settings on your RAW files. When you convert, you can also reduce, sharpen, and even load into your editor such as PS for more specific editing.

Congrats on the camera.

I also just got mine a couple weeks ago but haven't had a chance to mess with it much. Have been a bit too busy lately. :S

Hopefully soon I will get time.
