Hello,
I'm a student at UC Irvine. I'd like to join the LA DPCers on some photpgraphy trips. I am just starting out, so I don't have any great ideas. My holiday break goes on till Jan 6th, so if anybody is going to shoot some during that time, PM me --- I'd love to join you. I just got a rebel XT for Christmas after saving for it for a while.

For Jan in general, I am quite flexible with dates, esp. during weekends. Just let me know when you guys are going in advance. There is a good chance I'd be joining in. In terms of location, my only preference for now is to not go too far away from OC because I drive a clunker and wouldn't want to stretch it too much. If carpool is an option, I'd gladly pitch in for gas.

Cheers and happy holidays,
John.

Hi John,
Welcome.
I live in Pasadena and mostly shoot up here.
On the 30th, I plan on going to the Equestfest at the LA Equestrian center in Glendale, where they'll have all the horses for the Rose Parade on display and they will also perform. Should be a great photo op.

On the 1st, I plan on going to the pre parade float viewing as well.
A better way to shoot the floats without the hugh crowd, after not sleeping overnight.

Let me know if you are interested.

Hey all,

I just stumbled on this thread and thought I'd introduce myself. I recently moved to LA and have been looking for excuses to get out and shoot more. Unfortunately, work and time contraints have kept me from shooting as much as I'd like to lately :( But a new year means a new resolution! And I'd love to join in any group outings! I can usually free up my weekends to go shooting, so if there is anything planned and the group could use another body, please let me know :)

Cheers!
Derick

Hi Derick,
Welcome to LA DPC...
Sorry you missed the Rose Parade Floats. John is new as well and we went together today. I shoot a lot around so you may want to check out LA Shooters as well.
Here's a link to the Parade Float stuff from today

Hi Tom,

Dang it! Woulda loved to shoot the floats. Fantastic pictures on your page BTW. Those type of urban/city shots are exactly what I've wanted to try my hand at. One question: Is LA Shooters some sort of organization?

Well, hopefully I'll be able to tag along on your guys' next outing. From your photos, it looks like I could learn a thing or two.

Hi Derick,
I think you are being generous with my shots.
Anyway, LA Shooters is just a small Yahoo group so we can chat, mainly to arrange small outings. I like to shoot atleast once a week and just wanted a central place for fellow photogs in the LA area to arrange outings in a centralized manner. Feel free to sign up if you like so you can keep up with the shooting schedules/outings.

I was thinking about going to the Rose Parade Float viewing tomorrow after the parade but hearing the water come down outside like someone is pouring buckets from the roof makes me think that there won't be any flowers or vegetation left on the float after all this rain.

Good thing I went yesterday before it rained.

Hey John, where are your pics? Have you tried the RawShooter Essentials?

Thanks Tom. I just signed up today:) Too bad about the rain. I actually had an idea for the BOC challenge so went out to try and shoot it. But the rain and flooding at intersections all over the valley put a stop to that:(

Welcome Derick & John,

Glad to see new people here! You can post outings here or on LA Shooters and Tom & I will cross-post them. I hope to meet you both on some outings in the near future. I am interested in getting out on the 14th or 15th. The 14th in the afternoon or the 15th all day. Anyone up for it? Any ideas?

Sorry Arie... Can't make either one. Saturday is an all day conference and Sunday is my Daughter's Birthday. Next time I'm available for an outing, count on me being there though.

Thanks Arie! I'd love to go shooting on the 14th or 15th. I don't have anything on the calendar for those days so far, so i'll be up for anything.

Hi Derick and Arie,
I am free Saturday (all day) and Sunday (after noon). If you go with an all day Sunday plan, I can possibly join you later. So don't hesitate to go with it.
Cheers,
John.

I'm free on either day, but would prefer Sat 14th. Afternoon shoot is fine with me as long as we have a chance to shoot the sunset.

Now where? I wouldn't mind doing the financial distric myself, but am definately open to other ideas.

Tom, I'd love to shoot the financial district! In fact, whether or not the group was going this weekend, I was planning on packing my backpack and making an afternoon of hiking around downtown. So if you all decide to head there, then I'll be in for sure :) Saturday afternoon works well for me too

I can go to the financial district of downtown LA on Saturday with you! I think I may drive down to San Clemente on Saturday night to see friends and go to the San Diego Zoo on Sunday. So, I could go out from like 11am til 4pm or so. Is that time good?

Works for me.
Where should we meet, is there something special or very photogenic that we should scout/consider???

Kansas City, eh? Maybe one day :)

As for meeting in downtown... Let's meet at the guy with his head in the wall. I think it's on 6th, just north of Figueroa (Ernst & Young) building I think. Know it?

We are meeting on Saturday, 11am at Ernst & Young by the bronze sculpture of the man with his head in the wall (Fig & 6th) I think. The Red-Line goes there (just diagonal). See you there (this Saturday) - Jan 14th
