Ha, Bear, you know, I told another DPC'er on IM that the blue was going to be a flower, in a white vase on a white background.

Unfortunately, we don't have flowers up here now and I don't have a white vase, so I went creative.

I'm guessing overall scores will be lower because there seem to be two camps. Camp A doesn't like selective desat and will vote those lower. Camp B is looking exactly for selective desat as the ultimate literal interpretation of the challenge and will vote lower the others. This just leads to overall lower votes.

I'm still entering though...

I wish you guys wouldn't put down flower shots and imply, over and over, that they are not "creative", thus the people who make them are not "creative". Come on. Creativity is not so narrow that it excludes categories. Flower pictures, and water droplet pictures, can be very creative. And, BTW, a lot of what people refer to as "creative" is just a bunch of I won't say what.

Added: and what if someone has posted a picture of a flower in a vase, WHY NOT? And I'm not saying that I did, that is nobody's business, but I like flower pictures, and flowers in vases pictures, and they can be just as creative and beautiful as a bunch of the other stuff one sees here and in other places.

OK, so I've vented.

Me too :)

Otherwise I might say something like, "Oh, get a life!"

Hey Ursula, maybe instead of "less creative" I should say "more obvious". It was the very first thing I thought of, and I think a really good pic could be made out of it (I wasn't just joking that blue could be such a pic). But lack of such things forced me to look elsewhere...

Now I have a shot of an apple on a white vase with a white background...MUCH more creative. ;)

The description on Burst of Color is going to cause lots of the same approach i fear - and out of the box thinking will be punished.

perhaps Nazi is not the proper word. Didn;t know they were included in the PC thing now too. Perhaps closed minded is better, for words, not attitude.

a man can be a mother, when i think of mother i just think of one thing , someone or something that looks over another and cares about them, i was thinking of submitting a todler in his bed curled in his covers, i mean, it works

Only if the apple has some water droplets sprayed on it. :)

BTW, first thing that came to my mind was an apple on a vase. So go figure. (Actually, first thing I thought of is a water droplet on a colourful background, or a frozen piece of coloured water splashing into a glass, but I thought that was just waaaay too obvious.)

Definately a "Burst of Color"!

OK...well, I am with the poster that pulled and reentered and pulled and reentered. LOL...Except I didn't reenter my original. I had three to choose from. The original had a sucky something in it I didn't like, so I went to reshoot today. Well, my subjects had been moved around by the place where I took the shot. Hence, the color was gone, BUT the sucky thing was great! LOL....I couldn't do a THING with it.

So, I took my two second's along with my original entry and sent them to a pro photographer I know (doesn't belong to DPC). It was unanimous on the one I thought was the best as well. He thought my original entry sucked wind. LOL...Good thing I decided to make the change. One of my other seconds had a huge burst of color, but was obscure. I will explain that later in outtakes. The last one I also loved was the one he chose and liked a lot. I have spent the afternoon getting it to its possible best, and am finally ready to go.

As for selective saturation being the easy way out? I would have to say that is so wrong. How many photos on this site have won ribbons just coming directly out of the camera with no manipulation whatsoever? Selective sat and desat, along with a plethora of others, are allowed. Many have used them. Many have won using them. I see no difference between challenges. Just because this one has to do WITH color, I don't see why using selective saturation in this particular challenge has to be a downfall. I say USE it to your hearts content if you need to. It's allowed, and so are many other things. I'm not saying to change your photo drastically, and keep the photo as it would look had you taken a better focus, or at a better time of day, or better settings, etc. But advanced editing is there for a reason. Had the challenge said basic editing, it would have been another story. Those pulling their photos for those reasons, or for background reasons, I think are silly. Have FUN with this one! I know I am!

well said Rose.

Did enter mine tonight (almost 1 'o clock @ night here) not sure if it'll do well, but I never am. Didn't desat by the way, so I hope the burst of color's gonna fall allright. I do think so!

have a great rollover, I'll catch up with you guys tomorrow ;)

Actually, I really don't like this very much personally speaking. To me, I don't know how to describe it, but whatever was done to it makes it seem kind of ....flat? Not sure that is the word I am looking for, but knowing how the flower should look, I just don't like the manipulation on this. I would probably like the original better. I would have given this one a 4. A 5 automatically, and nothing for technicals, and one point lower for it not appealing to me. :) Sorry.

Thanks. I don't usually like to use, or even feel the need to use much manipulation in photos. It depends on the challenge theme, and how bad my photo comes out. LOL....

See you tomorrow! Good luck!

And that's the other reason I wouldn't have entered it - a lot of people seem not to like the 'over-processed' look. :)
Besides, I like the one I submitted LOTS better!

I don't really like to edit a lot too, but I'm pretty into (self)portraits, so sometimes it's necessary (how do you write that?!) to remove some spots of the face. I don't like that, but it does come out a bit better than without the editing.

good luck to you too!

Well...thanks to this thread I just unsubmitted my entry. I wish people would just stop with this crap. Read the challenge and shut up already! Wait until it is over to discuss this stuff.

I unsubmitted mine and submitted a different one. It probably won't do any better, but it doesn't have a black background and I think it is better for the "Burst" aspect of the challenge. I should try not to read these threads either.

I've had an opinion once or twice about the negative impact alot of these threads create... and was told that they have no influence at all as very few people actually read them... wonder what I'm missing... :)

You know what? I don't understand the problem here with this thread at all. Bearmusic was only making a "view point". Hence the reason for the forums. As what should and shouldn't be submitted, I had the same argument you do once, BUT this area IS for discussing what the different ideas are. Once someone even mentioned the title to my entry, unknowingly. I had to change it. It pissed me off. LOL...But you know what? There is no reason to be bitter about it. I have learned in this particular instance that it is better to just join in and explore challenge possibilities.

I could care less WHAT the background is. Black, white, or the American Flag. I could also care less what the subject of the photo is. A flower, a bug, whatever. (Once the challenge is over, I don't think anyone will believe what my entry was before I changed it. LOL....). As long as it speaks "burst of color" to me, your scores are safe with this voter! LOL....

I submitted mine. And no, its not a flower. :P

It may get hit by DNMC a little, but I get to look at for a week!

I don't know how I'll vote. Guess it will depend on the image. Does the color make an impact or make the subject stand out? works for me...
