just a quick question for my intellectual friends!:)--what are the images with the *.thm extension next to the *.crw files in RAW photographs? Why are they smaller and blurrier than the original? I don't understand the purpose of them--can I delete them? Help!

I am not familiar with the .thm or the .crw files but I bet the .thm is a "Thumbnail" for quick reference... Low resolution, small size for quick viewing and for reference only.

They are thumbnails. Used presumably to create the thumbnail that gets embedded into the jpgs/tifs when converting from raw using the converter tool.
