Here's a quick-n-dirty fix. Used magic wand to select sky, "select similar", then "grow selection" (to get it down over the trees). Used rectangular marquee to DEselect areas in the rest of the image that are white, leaving only sky selected. Made duplicate layer from BG and used a pale blue to transparent gradient that was a fair amount too dark. Faded the duplicate layer in layers dialogue box to make the sky more natural. Applied Focus magic (USM would work pretty well too) to crisp up the image.

Robt.

Edit: Oh, yeah... Burned in the lower corners a bit also.

Edit 2: You don't WANT a "blue" sky here, the picture is obviously shot on an overcast day and too blue a sky would not look natural. So I gave it a bluish overcast look, or I hope I did anyway.

Focus Magic is a PS plugin that has to be purchsed. It basically uses the USM principles in a sophisticated and interactive way. It's a godsend for rescuing slightly blurred images, and for me it works as a plain "sharpener" as well, but a lot of the time USM will produce about the same result.

There's a tutorial on sharpenign with USM here. Read that and then let me know if you need more help.

Just wondering what you might think of this edit... I was looking for a bit of a dreamy quality.

Steps taken:

1) Duplicate image in another layer and set to overlay mode.
2) Gaussian blur this layer at 25 pixels (I believe).
3) For dodging & burning, create an overlay layer filled with 50% gray, then paint white or black in areas to lighten or darken.
4) Create an gradient layer with shades of light blue in it. Use a layer mask to keep the gradient mainly in the sky.
5) Apply a tiny curves adjustment for more contrast.
6) Apply sharpening, but mask out the distant objects (like trees) so that they appear to be less in focus than the foreground.

Step #2 is the main effect for the dreamy quality... the rest is just to finish up the image.
