Is there any etiquette or "unwritten rules" about the Best of 2005 challenge? For example, should we not enter a photo that has been featured in our profile or on our member page, or one that may have been shown on other photo websites? Or does anything go?

Hi Karen,

Anonymity is an unwritten rule, so you can use your judgment. If the shot in question has lots of views/comments/favorites or been discussed extensively in the forums I personally might enter another one. If it was appearing in your portfolio and you suspect that while peole might recognize it they wouldn't tie it directly to you, I'd enter anyway. You could always remove or hide the image from your portfolio during voting.

This appears to be the perfect place to post a reminder to all that the rules prohibit reusing previous challenge entries, so as long as the shot hasn't been entered to a DPC challenge before now, you should be OK. Apart from that, A1275's advice seems sensible to me.

If you plan to use an image in your portfolio then just hide it for the duration of this challenge. A number of us did that for 2004.

Did anybody else notice on the submission page that it says "yes, this photo was taken between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004"?
:)

Also, if you plan to use a pic in your portfolio, do you have to re-upload it from your 'puter or is there a way to 'link' it from your portfolio?

Yes, it's been discussed on another thread. D&L will surely fix it when their hangovers subside. As far as I know, you'll need to re-upload your image, can't link to challenge from portfolio. If it's easier for you (the original is archived) you can always download the image from your potfolio to your desktop and re-upload to challenge from there :-)

Thanks, bear. I shall do just that.

no, you cannot link in a previously uploaded image. you will have to re-upload it into the challenge. this also means you can revisit the editing (if necessary).

I think you should still put your best one in. I know we strive to remain anonymous, but I think that it is very difficult in this challenge and hopefully most voters will take that into consideration.

I am personally, not cutting down the score at all if I know whose photo it is (for this challenge.)

It would be a shame for you to not put your best up against the best of everyone else. My best of 2004 entrie had 2 favorites and many views before I entered it...

I guess you are right :) thanks

Well, "anything goes" is a bit misleading. The entries still have to follow the rules which means no adding or removing major elements, no composites, etc. Just thought I'd clarify that.

I think you would be silly not putting it in. It is after all your best photo of 2005. Forget about whther people know it is yours. It should be voted by how good it is, not by who it is by

I won't be taking part in this challenge cuz I don't have originals of my best images to send in as proof. :-(
01/03/2006 08:57:51 AM · #18
I've already hidden mine. tee hee

There will be those who remember it, but I really do think it's my "best" so I'm going for it. I cannot wait to see what people view as their personal highest achievement visually speaking. It will be high scoring and I look forward to seeing all of the stunning images. This, along with "Free Study" will be eye candy for me as the subject matter will be varied and not themed.

WOO HOO!

I have a dumb question...

When we "hide" a photo on our portfolio, will anybody who's chosen it as a favourite still be able to see it in their favourites?

:-/

So what constitutes a "shot" in terms of the rules. If I took two shots of a scene with the camera on a tripod and using the same camera settings and have already entered the first shot in a challenge, can I still enter the second shot in this challenge even though it will be difficult to tell them apart?
