I don't understand this. Every shot that uses depth of field at all creatively seems to get panned for not having enough depth of field.
What is it that motivates these people that are convinced that not having absolutely everything in the shot totally pin-sharp is a bad thing ? Is it just people that don't have cameras or can't adjust the camera settings that feel this way, or do they just hate the idea that a photograph might show some creativity in how the subject is presented, rather than being a perfect reproduction of what you might see through your eye, while rapidly shifting focus back and forth to see the 'whole thing' sharp ?
I don't get it - DoF is one of the few things you can actually influence with a camera, other than which way you point it - you'd think people would get extra credit for doing something technically interesting, rather than being asked for more DoF all of the time...

Gordon, it's really hard to distinguish between "I did that on purpose" and "What's Depth of Field mean?" Same with soft focus vs. a lack of focus. Or for that matter, too dark vs. setting a mood or any other artisticly creative alternative to what the eye sees. I am extremely visual. I like visually exacting photos, same with canvas art. My wife has taken a life long art appreciation education in my case. I'm pretty much hopeless. After reading many forums about on purpose photos being not exacting, I have tried to "lighten up" on this aspect more, but I'm still pretty tight @$$ about it. I don't have any kind of suggestion to help you out, except maybe, keep ranting often enough and maybe the message will sink into the masses. I like your work, always. Take care and heart! Swash
