Here's the linkShapes I
It seems the blue winner shot is more of a texture...what do y'all think of this one?

I think I'll stick to this one since I don't live near a major city.

I would have to disagree. IMO, the shot focuses on the shape of the sand formations, not the texture of the sand. This shot also happens to be one of my absolute favorites on DPC.

I'm really excited for this challenge. I just hope my photo will be half as great as jjbeguin's.

Mine is in, and a bit out of the box. Then again, most of mine are. LOL...It's hit or miss. One never knows.

I better take mine soon...I don't want to repeat the story with my patterns entry that is still lying in my computer :(

I hate it when its a second challenge of the same kind..everything I think about doing has already been done and now I can't (or don't) want to repeat the shot

Agreed and certainly no disrespect to jjbeguin, I love and admire his work, and that shot! Just curious how other's will interpret.

Do you guys think more people will do shapes or city life? I wouldn't mind doing either, so I am thinking that I will just do whichever has fewer entries.

I'm out of city life. I would have to travel about 45 minutes to see one. LOL..I don't do that too often.

But I can already see the wonderful shots for that one. City Landscapes will dominate with those long shutter speeds and starry lights. I think its going to be a rough challenge for many.

I hope not. Cityscapes don't really say anything about "life" to me. I'm not being a DNMC nazi, but I just hope that people are more creative and we see a more street photography rather than postcard shots.

I would probably vote higher for a street scene than a landscape, as well. I like people shots better...unless the city landscape evokes a certain mood.
I've got mine in for the Shapes Challenge and I think it's my best yet...but the voters could totally disagree. :)

I am popping my challenge cherry with this one. I'm kind of scared. I went with shapes because I thought it would be easier. Was I wrong!! I had such a difficult time. I happy with the image I choose though once the voting starts we'll see how long my confidence holds.

I just got my entry in... I was a little concerned that it was too abstract, but after looking at the first shapes challenge, I took the plunge. Now, just to get that mother shot:)

Don't worry about your score, it's just a number. It has nothing to do with how good or bad you are. I'm a commentaholic myself ... lol. Anyway, welcome to the joys and pains of the challenge.

Wasn't going to enter anything for challenges till after next week. But I got an itch to take photos today lol. So I entered one. I'm pretty proud of it considering it's not usually something I do. But I had fun with it and can't wait to see how it does.

i usually tend to enter the challenge where less people enter but this time since my idea is very good i am entering shapes-II. Hope this time i will cross the 6 barrier, since this time there is no way someone will shout its DNMC and its good composition, the only thing that it does not have is the WOW factor (which is deal breaker for lot of people here).
In the end if it does badly i know lot of people will enjoy it, since its pretty funny. That would be enough for me.

Yes, I am now on my second challenge - first one was a total trainsmash-got the photo (submitted in paterns), but I didn't know how to reduce the size and pixels without loosing quality. I then cropped the original until the cropped version was small enough to enter. Most of the comments I got was (grainy and/or out of focus). For Shapes, I re-took the photo - sized it the correct way - thanx to all the help on the forums. Put a frame (also help on the forums) and submitted the photo. Will like to see the comments now - definately not a 10, but hopefully better than the under 4 I got on the first one. Under 4 was actualy much highr than what I thought I would get.

Hmmm, not toooooo thrilled with my shapes entry. I mean, I like it, but I don't think it will be a great scorer. I had one in but I knew it would seem as if the title was placed just to match the theme, and it may just have been that way too. LOL....It was a shot I took in time line that I was dying to enter somewhere, and couldn't find the place and thought shapes would be great. BUT, I changed my mind. I wanted to really go shooting FOR the challenge theme itself. I did get one yesterday. I just don't have time to change it though, or better it, so I will let it go in as is. It's not my best, but hopefully it won't be my worst either. LOL...

As for city? I kind of thought of doing something along the "homeless" or more personable aspect to city, but it just wasn't happening. I have no city around me, and the streets of this town just don't have anything to give a city feel or impact.

So, I am happy with my mother entry and scores. My pattern is a bust. LOL...I'm ok with my shapes. I personally love my free study, but not sure it will work for the voters. My burst of color to me is very nice, but not sure its a top winner. So I will pretty much be sailing next week and not overly ethused. Who knows. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.
