Sounds pretty likely to me also. I'd guess the cron will be run as soon as D&L awake.

There's an SC thread where a few of us hae voiced the opinion that the rollover should happen tonight, not during the day, to give others time to submit/vote. Just in case that doesn't happen, I would not advise procrastinating ;-)

How many of you are awake at 6 in the morning?

Sorry about the down time, it was a hardware issue related to the drives in our main box. Everything is resuming now as normal. My apologies to those who missed the deadline. =[ |

I am really pissed about this.
The site was down for at least three hours before rollover.
I, not knowing this, drove about 2 hours round trip yesterday morning to buy supplies for my photo. I then spent about 4 hours taking the shot, and post processing.
I got on DPC at about 9:30, early enough to beat the pre-roll rush.
Nope, no DPC.
I think in this situation, the roll should be held until at least a reasonable hour the next morning. EXIF data will prove that the photo was still taken before the deadline.
I know everyone says this, but I really think I had a very high scoring shot this time. Now I'll never know.
Thanks for nothing, DPC.

Not much you can do abut a crash. The site came online at sometime after 3 and and the challenge stayed open another 4 hours. Most people were sleeping of course, but someone would have complained no matter what time they decided to end the challenge.

Not much you can do about the crash, no, and that's not what I'm mad about. I work in IT, I understand stuff goes down. I'm mad that the challenges weren't held open another 8 hours. If there was a crash, why not roll the challenges as soon as the site is back up. If you're going to hold them open longer, then hold them until the west coast of the US is awake.
I don't think everyone is out to get me (and that I'm on the East Coast). I just think a lot of people, including myself wuz robbed. And I'm pissed, and it's going to put me in a bad mood for a good part of the day, I imagine. I spent a fair amount of time, effort, and money, producing, what I thought was an awesome shot. I've been kinda "stuck" latley, score wise and artistically. I finally feel like I got out of that rut with this shot, and I wake up to the challenges rolling at some arbitrary time, that undoubtedly let some people enter photos after midnight, but not everyone who had a legally taken photo they could enter.
Just sucks, that's all. It makes me want to throw my laptop and camera against the wall.

I guess I woke up 45 minutes too late.

I hardly ever enter challenges, but I finally had one this time, and spent all week on it. Then I couldn't even enter it. I stayed up as long as I could, but the deadline is already at midnight for me, and when I woke up it was rolled over. It definitely should have been extended at least until most people would be awake.

I think people are forgetting this is an international site...just because North America was in bed doesn't mean the administrators should cater to them. If the rollover had happened at a time when Europe or Asia was in bed, they'd be the ones complaining and the NA contingent would be saying "oh, so sorry." Why should things be rearranged according only to our timeframe?
It sucks but it's one of those things that happens in life. It will all be OK. Take pics for the next challenge and move on.

That would totally be my luck if I pushed the deadline... and I knowing how my luck goes try to get entries in at least two days ahead of the deadline.
I may then reshoot and submit later, if I don't like something about the shot or want to try the other challenge instead.
I was a newspaper photographer for quite a few years... and I discovered in those years that pushing deadlines is always a formula for heartbreak.

Didn't get to enter. I started trying hours before the deadline. I didn't leave it until the last hour.
Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Count me in as one who also says "this sucks" - I wasn't nearly as last minute as usual and I bought some props and spent several hours shooting for this one and it may be the only one I ever had the idea for as soon as the challenge was announced. I was trying to post a full 3 hours before the challenge and the site was up at the time. I stayed up checking the site for 4 hours after the would-be rollover, then got up at 6:30am to check again and thought for sure they would delay rollover for a day, but apparently not.
Please allow me to vent. Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!
Doesn't help much. I don't know why a 24 hour delay of rollover could not have been implemented. |

I also think a 24 hour delay would be fair.

What's done is done. They can't go back and "unroll" the rollover. We had 7 days to submit....

To be accurate, they can go back - but won't. And we had 6 days, 21.5 hours or so to submit.
I know it's not the end of the world and it may be nobody's fault, but being in the website business, I can tell you that does not stop people from voicing their frustrations. |

Yes, and there was a deadline that we were counting on. Does this mean to be safe we have to submit a day before the deadline??????
Still very frustrating!!!!!! |

You're nicer than I am Laurie! :-) I woulda said Boo Freakin' Hoo. I also am one of the last minute submitters. Didn't do anything for this challenge, but I do realize that if I wait till the last minute I'm at the whim of the internet. |

Man This kinda suxs, I was trying to get mine in at 8PM Central time to 2am couldn't log on last night. I was hoping they would extend it a day, oh well I worked all week trying to get this picture, and foiled at the end. Bummer because this was a really cool photo and would have scored good. |

It's too bad the deadline wasn't extended 24 hours since that would have given everyone a fair chance to get their entries in.
