So, I have a question. Would it be considered "gauche" or perhaps arrogant to give a gift of one of my framed pictures to my sister(whom is kind enough to share her home with me)? I am a beginning amateur and am not real sure of the quality of my shots. I'm flat-*ssed broke this year and I am afraid that is about all I can afford. What's the opinion?

ofcourse you can! as long as she likes the photo ofcourse.

I like to give photos to my family, or photoshoots if they want to. they love it, and I'm sure your sister will love it too!

Gifts from the hands and heart outweigh store-bought.

I made up a calendar of my photos online and gave a copy to my parents and grandparents. A cheap/easy gift that always goes down well!

Absolutely, go for it. Its personal, something you love and will mean a lot to her....frame it well, nice framing adds soooooooooo much to the presentation.

I always have felt gifts that are created by the giver are much more valuable than what can be bought. My daughter is an artists and I look forward every year to getting something that she has made herself.
You do not need to be a professional either - your concern about your photos being from a beginning amatuer shoud not make a difference. In fact I enjoy looking back on my daughter's beginning art work and seeing how she has progressed.

I am giving photo gifts this year. Mostly to family of their kids.
I have wrapped them and I am giving them to the actual kids so they can give them to their mums and dads, it is going to look really cute when my 3 and 4 yr old nieces and nephews hand over these gifts.
I think it is a lovely idea to give something you have put your heart into. It has nothing to do with money. I would rather get a gift from the heart than anything else. Remember it is the thought that counts.

edited to say number 2 for sure

I think it would be beautiful to give a gift of print you made. :-)

But, so far I'm on my own here... I would much rather have the beautiful winter scene than the church. I like the church, but I like the bare winter scene even better!

I agree. Now if someone sees it in their heart to make me one of these ... :)

You know your family better than any of us. What do they have on their walls now (if any)? Do you want to give them something different? etc

P.S. I like #2 better also, but #1 is also pretty nice.
