I agree! Great catch! My ex-husband would be beside himself with these photos! If you bumped up the....contrast? and a little tweaking (talk to BradP, excellent PSer) this would be breathtaking!!

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments.
The light that day was unbelievable. Some crazy mist and fog in the forest with the sun rays coming through! Felt like I was in a dream. Hope the photos did it some justice.
Oh just processed a simliar one that was actually sharper. Better or worse than the original?
Cheers

FANTASTIC!! I would put this one up for sale if I were you. It is just gorgeous! They all are really. The last one, with the city in the background would have made a fantastic DOF entry! Definately would have gotten a 10 from me!

The original one is better, IMO - the central buck is looking right at you. It is awesome. You should definitely sell that one - you'll make a lot of BUCKS. LOL |

Unfortunately, the challenge isn't DOF, it's *shallow* DOF, and that photo doesn't in any way represent shallow DOF, as good as the photo is.

The main buck in the orginal looks back focused a little, is it? So the second would be better if the main buck is sharper. If the orginal is perfect in focus, then you have a one hell of an image. ;o)

some very awesome shots there. I would love to get an opportunity to shoot bucks in the middle of a tangle. I'm planning a trip next fall to Isle Royal where I hope to catch Moose diong the same thing.
My favorite is the third - with the front buck looking at you. Definitely consider selling as a print.

With the bucks as the main subject and being a fan of tighter crops, I would pull the edges in almost to the rear of the bucks and the top down to remove the distracting tangle of limbs and the bottom up to suit.
In any event the lighting is simply amazing.

Nice photoshopping skills. Pretty cool how you cloned in the deer so well. Supprised nobody else caught that.

Deer antlers are like snowflakes.

I don't know, I wondered about that myself. All their antlers look the same to me.... ;)
Still, really cool images!

Really dont agree you! It is the entire scene that makes it. The colours, the engulfing trees, the backlighting. And amoungst it all the deer!
cheers for you thoughts though! :-) |

NONE of their antlers look the same...they're not the same length, same arc, or anything of the sort. There always has to be someone who takes pride in raining on other people's parades...pathetic. |

Whoa! Not trying to rain on any parades. Just saying that the thought occured to me. To me, there are some similarities in the antlers of a few of them. I don't know how anyone could clone them in that well, at the different angles, etc. - it just seems like such a mind-blowing shot that I had to wonder.
I'm perfectly happy believing that they are in fact all real. And that being the case, some of the most amazing photographic work I've seen in a long time.
