anyone have any sample shots of any fisheye shots on a 1.6x crop camera (rebel / 20d) ?
also, besides the 10-22, is there anything wider? |

that, or the sigma 8mm are your only options for a true fisheye effect on the 20d. the 15mm just looks like a wide angle with slight barrel distortion. |

A 15mm fish may give the effect you want. Here is a photo that I took with my Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX Diagonal Fisheye
It definitely has more then just "slight barrel distortion"

Excellent fisheye efect gmdi!
I read that this lens on a 1.5 crop sensor would give a poor fisheye efect but this is great.
I also read that this is dependent of the framing of the picture in the photo and the effect can be barely noticed or pronounced like your photo. Do you have any olhor photos to post, people in it too?
I'm trying to decide beetween the sigma 15mm fisheye or the 10-20mm.

This is an uncropped shot with the 8mm Peleng on a Canon 10d
I was practically right next to the capitol building (of WI) and holding the camera right on the ground.
Two more from the same day, shooting straight into the sun:

This one of mine shows how the fish effect can be minimized on a 1.6x camera with a little work.

Good photo welcher. Nice look.
What I serious dislike in the 8mm circular fisheye is the blsck corners of the circular lens. I prefer the 15 mm with full photo withought black corners. If you crop the 8mm to loose the black parts you will have no advantage regarding the 15mm. it's my opinion.

If you want a fisheye effect with every shot that you compose, then I would suggest the 10-20mm
I bought my 15mm mainly for skateboard photography. I new this lens would be wide enough for the type of shots I would be taking and also add just enough of the fisheye effect that I wanted.
What you read is correct! Depending on how the photograph is composed, will dramatically achieve how much of a fisheye affect you get. If you have horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the frame, you will get the best fisheye affect, If you have a lot of vertical lines on the left and right side of the frame, they will just look a little bent. If the subject is centered in the frame, you will see very little effect. Now this is with my 15mm.
I do not have any portrait photos that I took with my 15mm but if you are interested in seeing a few of the skateboard shots, let me know and I will post.
"EDIT" here are a couple of links to my skateboard website. My partner and I started the site about 3 months ago and it has been a lot of fun!

I'm also looking for a nice wide-angle for my 350D so i'll follow this topic.
now one comment on gmdi , the 10-20 ain't a fisheye, it's a wide angle.
so i don't think this is right? :

I got mine from Kiev Camera on ebay for under $200. Make sure you pay attention to where the lens is shipping from. Kiev Camera has a warehouse in Florida and getting a lens shipped from there takes a LOT less time than getting one shipped from Belarus where the factory is. Some sellers don't order from the factory until they have your order so, it can take weeks.

The 10-20 is a wide angle and not a fisheye.

$220 was with shipping ($20) and the adapter to fit an EOS (another $20). It's the cheapest I could find on Ebay. I think it's coming from Russia though because it will take up to two weeks for delivery. Based on what I've read about the lens, it's still a bargain. |

I have the 15MM Fisheye and a 20D. One of the earlier posts states that the 15MM fisheye is flat on the 20D and he is correct. Here is a photo taken with my 5D and the 15MM fisheye and you can see the effect clearly. I will try to post another taken with the 20D as soon as I find it and can upload it. You can see the fisheye effect but it is no where close to the 5D.
This is my first time posting a photo hope that it works... |

i got my peleng for 200 flat, with shipping and adapter. great lens for the money, definitely fun to play with. i took this shot with it and remapped it a bit to minimize the fisheye effect a little.

yeah you can see the fisheye effect more if you put horizons and straight lines more towards the edges, but usually it's tough to see.
the 15mm on a 1.5 crop cam is generally not a good combo for skateboard photography...ive seen a few instances that are ok, but generally it just looks like wide angle shots which are kinda frowned up unless done really well in the skateboard photography world. standard is full fisheye or long lens in the 70-200 range. |
