Definitely, nice work, Neil. Gallery looks good!

Interesting...14 different edits, and each one is different. Some have the same or very similar crops, but each has it's own unique characteristics. Even in the 'help me edit my photo' threads, with only a handfull of edits, you usually end up with a couple that are *very* similar. Not here, though! :-)

Where can us that tried "unofficially" put ours?
Didn't think I would stay out of it that easy did ya? Especially when you put the original on the voting page...

Put it in your port Brad and add a link to it....hehe then we can come and vote on yours too!!

Gallery looks great Neil.....fascinating seeing all the different edits. Good work!!

I'll wait for Neil's go ahead first. Not one to invite myself.
12/14/2005 08:13:00 AM · #133
Brad and others who may try this--I think it's best to wait until after the voting.

After the official vote, I can open up the gallery for uploading for a few days, and you can put yours there. People can still rate it then. At that point too, I will post the steps people took to do theirs.

Will you post your version for the photo also Neil? It would be interesting to see how you envisioned the photo when you were taking it compared to what we did with it.

Also, maybe you can edit your first post to add the link to voting so people don't have to search through the whole thread to find it. MIght make it a little easier. :-)

Great work guys & gals!!! And for those of you out there who didn't think it was tough - take a good look at that original! LOL

And Neil - I ditto jenesis' request... I wanna see YOUR edit! What was your take/interpretation of the shot? (i.e., How far off were we?)

Thanks again - this has been fun. Oh yeah, and good luck gang! (I still say the brown is mine!)

One of the contestants who missed the deadline just sent me their entry and I've added it to the gallery.

IMPORTANT: To the person who sent it to me, please don't identify yourself here, as it will be then easy to put a name to the photo. That's exactly why I never mentioned who didn't send a photo.

As to the suggestions that I include my own vision of the photo, I sort of did. One of the original 15, not counting the "master", was mine. I included it to get any comments and anonymous rating of it, though I would exclude myself from winning. FWIW, I did mine before I saw the others, with the original "badly" converted photo, so I didn't have any advantage (I did this the night we were discussing whether or not it was "usable" as a test.) The one I submitted is close to my vision of the photo, but not quite--but I'll wait until after the contest to explain.

Now having said that, there's no "right" way to do this. I love the various interpretations I saw (equally and in some cases better than mine). The work you all did was creative and fantastic.

I will also note that I am not voting, since I know which photo belongs to who! I will probably go through and comment, after the voting is done. Good luck to all.

Neil,

There might be something amiss with the voting on the new image. I rated the image however the vote registered as zero. If there's a way to remove my vote so as not to skew the results that would probably be a good idea.

I don't remember this happening when I voted on the other images but I was voting from home on those and on this one from work.

I'll wait until it's over and submit mine just for grins.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together Neil.

Alright....who voted the original a "1"?

It appears all my votes register as 0 so who knows what that's all about.

Colette, I don't know why it's picking on you. Nothing personal ;)

- Did you try creating a user ID and then voting?
- Is it happening at work but not at home as you said? If so, it could be IP related, as it tries to keep the same IP from voting twice.
- Did you try a different browser? I am sure it works with both firefox and IE, but perhaps some plugin is getting in the way, or a setting. So try a different browser.

I tried searching for problems in Coppermine "gallery rating 0" but I wasn't able to find anything on the web about such a problem. Maybe a someone more experienced with coppermine installations than me can chime in here.

Ok folks, the time has come to vote. Voting is anonymous, but if you want to leave a comment, you have to register (it's my site, and no, I won't spam you). Participants, see my last note for a suggestion about that.

Voting ends Thursday night at midnight, EST.

Advanced Editing Contest Here

Let me know if you have any problems voting or viewing the entries.

We have lots of views, but not a lot of votes. Voting ends midnight EST tonight, so please visit and cast your votes for the best aesthetic/most interesting edit.

Chime in here after you voted. Maybe we should give first consideration for participation next time to those who vote!

Both at home and work. Use IE at work, Netscape at home. The only thing I can think of is that it may be related to cookies if that's how votes are recorded/remembered.

Just created a userid and voted from that account. No difference.

Hell, my voting was complete within a couple hours of his having announced the start of voting. I'm pretty sure I was first to complete voting, as all but 2 of the images I voted on had 0 votes when I did them.
