Okay, I have to do it...
Somebody somewhere in one of the multiplicious threads about changing everything from the voting system to the image size and then the file size, said that no one would start a thread just to say they like it like it is.
Well, har har, I'm starting a thread for one reason!
I LIKE IT AT 640x640, 150K, SINGLE SCORE, BAGS OPTIONAL, COMMENTS NOT REQUIRED.
And yes I'm shouting. Just in a friendly way. But I'm serious.
LEAVE IT ALONE! I LOVE IT!
:)
Edit: stupid spelling

I think we should go back to submitting our stone tablet carvings and cave paintings like they did back in bear_music's day. And voting woudl be done with drums and we could wear animal skins over our heads if we wanted anonymity.
But if we can't do that, I'm ok with leaving things as they are. Or changing them now & then. Whatever. I'm good. |

I have previously pointed out that clay tablets are perfectly suited for recording binary data (ask the Babylonians), and have proven readable (unlike CD-Rs) after about 8000 years. A "real" CD is actually almost the same thing but on a smaller scale. You could probably "read" a clay tablet with a bar-code scanner ...

I think a lot of people are very satisfied to leave it like is. And the reason for that is because it's pretty darn good this way.
Thanks for starting the thread nards.

If the decision is nothing should ever change then let me make one final suggestion to removed the suggestions thread.
After all we wouldn't want people to voice their opinions and make SUGGESTIONS. |

I think the point trying to be made is that with the current users of the site the best format is as is. This is not to say that sometime in the future this won't change. |

640 150k are just too antiquated. Update to a modern monitor (or just deal with scrolling). Why should the majority be held down to pacify the few? Plus, and more importantly, photographs that place emphasis in the details are being overlooked because of the small presentation.
Personally I have decided not to enter a few photographs that I couldn’t get to look good at 150k.

This thread is more than just about picture size, it's blanketed to all suggestions.
Everyday there are new gripes about the way things work. If you are happy with the site then great, but there are numerous users who would like a little more out of the site.
If someone has a solution I don't see why they shouldn't voice that. More often than not the argument I see pop up about suggestions is "stop complaining" rather than intelligent thought out debate.
It's frustrating when people complain about others having and sharing ideas. Just because an idea was brought up 2 years ago doesn't mean it is still relevant today - and if the same problem is brought up again it just means it was never properly addressed. |

It may seem antiquated to you but try to tell that to the folks that live where 28k is the only access available. And to the folks that can't afford to updgrade their equipment every time a new technology comes onto the market.
Photos that contain a lot of detail don't do well on dpc. I regret that because I like those kind of photos myself, both for viewing and in the making. But I doubt that a larger image size would change that. It's just a part of the popular taste here at dpc.

So is this thread not sharing ideas? It doesn't really seem unfair that amidst the numerous "change this," "all the 'good photographers' are leaving," "this site is an ancient piece of crap" posts that there be one started by someone who actually likes things the way they are. Especially if we're going to use the number of threads started about a particular subject to be the judge of how wanted it is. |

like I keep saying, at least take a vote on the stuff, these threads mean nothing. actual data on what the users want does.

Actually, a vote means nothing, what the admins want does. |

I wish i could afford to be as blase as you. Must be nice to think that the world is rolling in cash that they can spend on anything they like.
Not everyone can just up and buy a new monitor. And fact of the matter is 86% of internet users used 1024x782 or lower screen resolution - so why should the majority be put out of place to pacify the few? |
