dont forget this is an international site and broadband is very expensive and not redily available in alot of the world.

We had a poll on this topic a few times. The last being in July 2004 and these were the results:

What connection speed do you primarily access the site on?

56k or lower 111

T1 or greater 53

If it's a 7:1 ratio then why can't we have 800x600 or larger in challenges? ;o)

Hey! Not Fair! I've been voting for three hours and I'm only at 62 of 119. I'm signed in at 24kbps. Maybe that's why my average score voted is lower. I'm really looking at each entry for a loooooong time while waiting on it to load. Nothing's getting by me. Another example - I tried to look at idnic's profile page and it locked up on me because of a huge photo on her profile page. Gave up and had to sign out and back in again.

There is nothing else available where I live. Well, I take that back. There is Direct TV satelite but the last time I checked it was over 100 bucks more a month than the 100 or so we're already paying for tv channels.

Thank goodness I'm not one of those on dialup. I cant imagine voting an entire challenge on 24kbps.

If you want 800x640 at 150k then it is not so bad. But that size image is five time the current limit. So if you want it at 750k you have likely killed all participation from the 14% who use dial-up - voting would never happen under with files of that size from anyone using dial-up. And those folks sure are not going to look at and comment on image of that size.

800 max pixel & 250k limit is a reasonable request. The DPC really hasn't kept up with the huge bandwith and server space advancements (or lower cost$$) in last few years.

I was on dialup for my first year on here because that was all we had in my area. Now I have cable and it makes such a huge difference. When I had dialup I never voted for more photos than I had to to make my votes count.

most of the time its broadband for me, but
occasionally I would check in on DPC using GPRS... it's slower than dialup.

You are also forgetting the very important factor that the average computer user's screen resolution is 1024x768 or LESS.referance

Do you really want voters needing to scroll on your entry? I doubt it.

Dunno, maybe scroll for 32 pixels? OR size your vertical entry to 750? or 730?
