The game has been established, the contestants chosen and the images selected.

THE RULES
Two contestants will battle out in a 5 round competition of photoshop skills and image manipulation. An image will be selected and posted. The original will be sent via e-mail to each competitor who will then do his/her best to alter the image. Anything goes, but the original image must be at least identifiable after manipulation. The results will be posted and voted on. The edited non-compressed winning image would become the background for the next round. Each contestant would have 24 hours to perform the manipulation. If the contestant is unable to complete the edit within 24 hours, they would lose the round to their competitor and the next round would begin. This would continue for 5 rounds with the overall winner decided by number of rounds won. In the event of a tie, total votes would be tallied and the winner decided in that manner.

The Competitors
Rikki vs. stare_at_the_sun
bear_music vs. Art_Roflmao
annah vs. idnic
kudzu vs. KaDi
mesmeraj vs. oowonderbreadoo
joey vs. slippy
unclebro vs. mavrik
DrAchoo vs. nshapiro

In order to be fair to everyone, the competition will begin on Thursday, December 8th, 2005 at 8:00 PM EST. At that time, the images will be assigned to each group in their own thread created for the purpose of posting images and voting.

This will give everyone a chance to prepare for battle in their own special way.

In the meantime I need the original "out of the camera" images (from above) sent to dpcgauntlet@yahoo.com so that I can distribute them to the contestants at the beginning of the challenge.

Each contestant will then have 24 hours to 'shop up the image and then return the web-ready version to me for letter designation and posting. The entries should be compressed and web-ready (150 MB or less and no greater than 640 px, yadda yadda yadda) when sent to that address. The entries will receive letter designations and be posted to their respective thread (each grouping will have their own thread for ease of organization). The general DPC public will then vote on which image is better (a or b) with the first 25 votes being the only ones that count for each round.

I hope this makes sense. Any questions?

This was taken in the dark, so the original is uh, almost pitch black - but i have always had fun making different PPs of this shot.
Anything i've got is up for it though - provided i can find the original.

OK, OK, OK... but that's it... no more exceptions... Check with Neil and find out when he'll be back in town and you guys can start then. I don't have access to PM's right now or I'd do it myself. You can let me know in this thread when you have an answer from him (unless he sees this thread and answers himself)

Here's one for the insanely obsessive :D

I'll email full-sized to anyone that gets stuck with one of mine

OK, we have enough images. I've been re-thinking the voting and feel it may get too confusing if the voting is left open. Should we have a panel?

maybe we should vote on each others?

That's kind of what I was thinking. All in favor?

Works for me

here's my idea for voting:

when the manipulation period is over, the images are sent to an independent person.
They will then open a new thread and post the images as a+b.
people will then reply and say "image a is best" or "image b should win" (depending on whether mine is a or b :-))

After 25 votes, the numbers are counted and a winner is announced.

No-one participating in the challenge is allowed to vote.
25 votes can be increased so long as it is an odd number and agreed upon in advanced.

How about we put them somewhere in a gallery where you can collect votes, 1-10 anonymously? (And people can comment as well.)

I have a few coppermine galleries here and there not getting a lot of use yet. If you want, I can make you an admin on it and you can post there. We can use one gallery per pair.

As far as my schedule, I'm good for right now at least, since Jason's itching to whip my butt. ;)

Bah, it's far more likely I'm a masochist instead of a sadist...

Sure... if you can remember what they were, be my guest.

OK, I set up a new e-mail account on yahoo (my current one is not available in some locations). Here's what I propose.

All entries must be e-mailed to dpcgauntlet@yahoo.com prior to the established deadline.

This is kind of a hybrid of all of the suggestions.

Sounds like a good plan, Lee! :)

I've edited the original post to include all the rules, contestants, and images. I need the originals sent to me so that I can distribute them at the onset of the challenge.

BTW... Thanks for all of the interest in my little experiment.
