I have no formal training in photography, have always been a point and click type of guy. Next month at the local tech school they are having a "Photography, Intro" class followed by "Photography, Intermediate" class. THese are for 35 mm slr. Would these two classes be helpful even though I am a digital nut? They aren't offering any classes in digital photography at this time and don't know if they will in the near future either.

They would likely be very helpful... you will learn some composition techniques and how to operate the manual controls on the camera...

Having taken a traditional SLR university course (college for americans) for half a year, I will warn you tread very carefully when it comes to using a digital camera. Generally they will teach things like developing B&W film and Shooting slide film... though shooting B&W digital and digital printed slides are possible there often is no tolerance to digital camera's... However if you can spare a hundred dollars or more for a second hand 35mm SLR, I highly reccomend taking a photography course...
Hold-on ... I just looked at you profile.. :-) Time to shake the dust off that olympus if you still have it..
Anyway I suggest you talk to one of the lecturers about it, some are very open minded and will accomidate you... others will be very negative... also you might want to find out what they will be covering and how the assesments etc.
Again, talk to the teacher, if you get a bad reaction DONT force the issue... just go find another....
My photography lecturer had no clue about digital camera's (and wouldn't have allowed one to be used for assignments) but was a very accomplished photographer in his own right. He went to see a 3D computer generated image class and ended up telling the students to take a photography course to learn about the proper use of lighting and compisition... one of the very reasons I had taken the class... just one experiance.
Anyway, I got hooked.... :-)
I hope this helps
