What do you think about these? Here are two shots that I took today. Was trying to do something different. The girl in the picture is my niece. I am going to be a Great Aunt!!

Wonderful! I love that mirror idea. I need to get me a decent mirror to use for the next time the opportunity comes around. I think your idea of the "artwork" is also cool. I'm sure your niece is really pleased with these.

Looks like she's due any time!

The last gal whose maternity shots I did, had the baby about 4 weeks after the photos. I told her she was really tiny, but she didn't believe me! I was afraid she'd be too big for the photos to be a good experience for her, but we ended up actually pushing the shoot back a few weeks so she'd look more pregnant!

Thank you! She is going to have a little girl. We had the baby shower today. She was so tired, the poor thing. I asked her if she was scared about the birth and she just looked at me like "are you kidding?". She will do great I am sure.

Those shots are great! I like them both

Thank you. I hope she likes them. She hasn't seen them yet. I hope they like the art one, because I think that it is really neat. I don't know if they will like it or not because it is not the typical maternity picture.

I love the second one Mandy. What an awesome idea and shot. I really like the soft feel to it. I personally am not as crazy about the first one. I would like to see it without the effect being so strong. I think it makes her face, especially the eyes too distorted looking. Everyone else seems to like it so just chalk it up to me being alittle distorted. :)

Have you done the second one in b/w? I bet it would be really nice done in it also.

If you have time share some more with us. I love seeing maternity shots.

Those are beautiful Mandy! I have a couple of suggestions that you might use for next time (or you can ignore me because half the time I have no idea what I'm talking about). ;)

On the art gallery one, try to get a little bit lower when you take the shot, to take out the reflection of the baseboard on the wall behind you guys. It is distracting in the image because I keep being drawn to it (it's a light color and immediately wants to draw my eye). I ADORE the concept and the shot itself, but that's just an idea.

On the other one, maybe a tiny step more to your right and getting in just a hair closer...and sharpening the face a little more. Her facial features are just a little *too* soft for me...it's difficult to see definition in her facial features. Overall, I love the softness of the image, but I'd just prefer to see her beautiful face with a tiny bit more clarity.

Excellent job and I can't wait to see more! :)

I really like the second one too. Not fond of the processing on the first, though. Congrats on the soon-to-be-new-baby in the family.

Thanks for the suggestions...they are all great. The second image is just a step in a process. I am not going to keep her reflection in the mirror anyway. I am going to replace that with her holding the baby with the same clothes on and with her arms hopefully in the same position.

Personally, I feel that the watercolour effect is overdone on the first one - her face looks way too distorted to me. As for the second one, that looks wonderful to me and I can really envisage the finished effect and look forward to seeing it when completed.

The first one is my personal favorite. I like how her face is very distorted. I wanted to make sure that it looked like a painting. I wanted the paint strokes to be large. I tried it with smaller ones and it wasn't clear what I was trying to do. It just looked like a dirty mirror. I am also very excited about the second one after I do the baby insert. I am hoping that when others see it they will pay me big bucks for a photo of them like that. I warned her that if she cut or colored her hair before I take the second photo I was going to hunt her down like a dog. LOL She wants to change her hair really bad. I had to beg her to wait just one more month!!

If she does change her hair, then you could blend in only her hands and arms holding the newborn, with the face and hair remaining as it is now.

Hopefully, I won't have to worry about that.

What a great idea Mandy. I can't wait to see that finished.

Left you a comment on your 2nd picture...great shots..!!

I like the second one - great idea! I might have to do something similar. Hmmmm... maybe would work well with a couple also.

I need to hurry though - my wife went into false labor that kept us up all night Friday. This pregnancy thing is really tiring me out - and I just feel so fat! I can't wait til it's over!

Nice work Mandy!
