This would need to allow 2 images in the same frame. One image would be a scene before something happens (what happens is up to the photographer) and the other image would be after. |

What also might be interesting is a Before and After challenge where you allow 2 images in the same frame and where one is the unedited version and the 2nd the edited version.

Photography and manipulation skills thrown in together. Great idea! |

You could actually do this within the challenge rules and have a very interesting challenge. There's a few ways you could go with it. Do a before and after concerning a timeline. Example: A man that looks like he's from the 1700s trying to get a carriage wheel replaced inside a "Dub Shop". Or you could do it concerning before processing and post-processing. It would have to be an advanced challenge where spot editing is allowed, and the challenge could stipulate that the left half of the image can't be edited and the right half can.

Now that we've broken the mold with tryptich, I'd love to see this happen as a diptych.
Personally, I'd like to see the before and after "edited" challenge.
Before, unedited or maybe basic editing, After, Advanced Editing.

I'd like to revive this challenge suggestion.
Recently, there was a very impressive thread in Indiv. Photo Disc. showing photos pre- and post- processing: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&&FORUM_THREAD_ID=338545&order=ASC - really blew me away.
Given all the disquiet lately about whether major elements/effects make entries too different from the originals - wouldn't it be nice to see, during the challenge, how much of the entry is in-camera photography and how much is PP? And, be able to vote on each of these skills?
This could be done in diptych fashion, as mentioned, or else with the original as a smaller inset image.
Input? Caveats? Constraints?
p.s. there was a Before and After challenge in '03, but it had a different thrust. |

I would vote for this challenge for a number of reasons but, personally, it would be a great education if it was the before processing and after processing format.
Can just hear all of those "So THAT'S how he/she does it!" expressions in the ether...
