edit: ok the 'title' is not the same, but the 'age old issue' was certainly raised again, just like it is/will be in this thread. |
Yep - I love repeat issues - it means I don't have to come up with a whole new protest scene, I can just reuse all my existing ones. :)

If it is important enough to you, you will find a way to remember to do it. I have made it a habit to send thank you PMs to all who comment on my entries, usually 2-3 days after voting has ended. I have never felt any need to do it any earlier.

We were playing a piece by the professor at my univeristy, and basically when i heard it the first few times at rehersals it didn't really sound like anything. With some explaination, the piece managed to come alive with history, culture and meaning i would have never understood without the knowledge she passed along with her explaination of the piece. |
Was that piece by your prof being judged in an anonymous contest?

I would give people the benefit of the doubt that they were actually interested in explaining the illusion to you, instead of PMing you just to increase their score by 0.001 :) |
If you had an entry that finished in fourth place, missing a ribbon by a very few of those 0.001s, and you found out that the third place finisher had responded to a bunch of comments, and some of the commenters had actually upped their votes, maybe then you would understand the importance of that 0.001. Think about it.

Most people who ask questions in their comments have good intentions; and most of the people who reply during voting have good intentions. The thing that you cannot ignore is that any such exchange gives up the identity of the entering photographer. Just knowing who shot which shot is something that cannot be ignored no matter how good everyone's intentions. Anyone who says they can put it out of their mind and not react to it 100% of the time is deceiving themself, and the rest of us.
Anonymity is an essential part of the dpc concept. People shouldn't treat it in such a cavalier fashion.

wouldn't know, never been PM'd from a comment before I don't think. (maybe, but I forget) I sent PM's the first couple of challenges before I knew It bothered people. Not so much anymore. Did one to DrAchoo in transparent, just because I wanted to share a thought that I wouldn't have remembered.
I don't think it matters at all, and I'd probably leave my vote the same just because it doesn't matter to me. I can't say that I might not be tempted if it was someone I knew here, but most of those people wouldn't do it, so It's just the newbies, and others that don't hang out on the forums that I'd have to worry about, for which I have no qualms about keeping my low vote low.

Just in case there is anyone left out there that doesn't believe that changing a small number of votes by a point or two can make a difference in the results, please take a moment to look at the scores for the second through sixth place finishers in Even.

There are always things that affect a few votes. Outtakes in the forums. People talking about ideas. DPC Fanatics. Livejournals and pbase accounts friends know about .. all that changes votes too. You can only vote, and enjoy the site.
