Woot! I just got a notice that I will have the Kodak POTD December 21st!

Here's the shot:

With the shorter title: "Simple Pleasures"

When I submitted it, I presumed Kodak would prefer pics of people to landscapes (dont' know if it's true), but in their note, they said "Your daughter and friend playing in the snow -- a perfect picture for
the first day of Winter!"

This will be my first, and coincidentally, it's my first submission there (but they've had it for about 6 months or more). I was just thinking that I would have to turn my attention to submitting photos to them, as it's one of the online "contests" I had yet to score in!

Unfortunately, we will be traveling that day and won't be able to go to Time Square that day. Anyone local to the city who can make it and take a shot of the display for me? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance. Neil, doing the happy dance!

Congrats Neil.

I also just found out that I have POTD, on my birthday, December 20th. I submitted it a couple of months ago and just figured with the amount of submissions, it probably never even got looked at, much less made the cut. I'm pretty stoked about it too. Here's mine, from the Bokeh challenge:

congrats, guys! those are most excellent shots, very worthy of their 24 hours on times square! and neil, ya really outta try to beg, borrow, or steal a way down to the city to see it live--there's NOTHING like it!

Thanks Robert, Judy, and Owen!

And congratulations Owen! I'll include you in my happy dance.

Now we have 2/31's of December in the DPC camp. :)

Now we need someone to photograph two days! Need someone who lives in Manhattan, or is there every day!

Edit: Skip, thanks, we passed in posting. I can't go, or I definitely would!

Thanks Nick! Hopefully you work near Times Square in Manhattan, as I really hate to put you out. Maybe I can find someone for backup.

Also: where is the sign exactly? I was looking for webcams possibly covering it, but I am not sure what view of Times Square I need to find!

Ooo, congratulations!!!

To bad I don't live in NYC anymore :(

Thanks Kiyoko.

Any other New York City residents who can serve as backup in case Nick is unable to shoot on the 20th and 21st? It would be greatly appreciated?

And does anyone know of a Webcam showing the Kodak POTD sign?

I'm there dude.

Just remind me the day before by PM and maybe that morning as well, also here in the forum. "In sight, in mind" (as opposed to outta sight, outta mind).

Keep Nikolai posted as well...anything can happen.
Nik-Let me know if you've got it covered and I'll do the same your way, on that day (save you the trip).

Cheers and Nice work

Please keep me in mind also if you happen to be in the area on the 20th.

Thanks in advance,

Owen

I emailed practically everyone in my address book today to tell them the good news. Tonight I got a call from a local radio station for an interview, which will air tomorrow morning. Gotta love living in a province with a population of 550,000.

Then I got an email from another photographer from Stephenville telling me had the POTD in March with this shot. He does some really great work.

Does anyone know of a webcam that's shows the Kodak big screen?

12/02/2005 04:46:04 PM · #21
There is a webcam, but for the life of me I can't remember the URL. I found it through an Internet search and someone (or you) can probably do that. I had two POTDs on Times Square - six weeks apart. I was able to visit the first time (it's a rush!) but I couldn't go back again six weeks later (from Chicago area), so I found the webcam and by checking it out several times during the day (let's rephrase that to 100's of times) I was finally able to glimpse it. Believe me, it won't be large on the monitor, but you'll know it's your photo.

Thanks Wendy. I did a quick search and found //www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/ but I don't think the Kodak screen is included. I'll keep searching.

Congrats to you both! It's quite a thrill seeing your image on the big board. A photo I took of the two daughters of friends of mine that made Kodak POTD so excited my friends that they flew out to New York from Chicago to see it.

That's the only webcam I could find for Times Square but I couldn't see my photos on the Kodak screen when I had POTDs there. The screen was shown in one of the webcams but the images on the Kodak big screen never seemed to change.
