Greetings to everyone :)
To DPC Photographers:
If you request a CC critique on your photo, it would be MOST helpful if you could post the exposure information (Aperture/Shutter Speed/ISO) information with your images. This information could allow the person commenting to give you some better suggestions for improving the photograph :)
Also, if you could put some information about the photo, such as your inspiration and intent for the photo, it could be useful as well...
Thanks :)

John, do you mean within the DETAILS: description beyond what is already requested in the other textboxes where it specifically asks for shutter speed, ISO, and aperture? If yes, then why cannot Drew and Langdon automatically cause this data to present itself during a Critique Club member's review session? This part seems redundant and unnecessary considering that the data is already present in the profile and just needs to be revealed.
As far as the inspiration and intent, that is nice to add and could be offered in the DETAILS textbox. What do you think? |

The detail box is already available and it is presented to the cc member, but a lot of them never have anything in them... It's not a requirement to fill that info out... it's just helpful to the person doing the critique if they understand any special intent the photographer may have had with the particular image...

You mean I have to buy another program?

It would be nice if the system automatically captures the exif image details when photos are submitted. |

There are several shareware and freeware programs that do this...
//www.irfanview.com provides one incredible program for free...

With the new system, I got blank detail boxes. Was that a fluke? I've had to open another window and find the shot to see its info. I also like being able to read the other comments when I'm leaving a critique. That way I'm not too redundant and can try to offer suggestions on problems that others pointed out. |

You can view EXIF data with Windows XP. Right click on the filename in explorer, and look at summary. Your shot data will be there. I picked that tip up here on this site. Works great if you have XP and not any other capable viewers. |

EXIF info is deleted in most programs after post-processing and saving it as a new file. In Photoshop 6 it seems to always be deleted and when I used Irfanview I turned it off, to save some filespace for submissions. Another reason for not putting the EXIF in shots on the web is because of copyright reasons. I am the only one with the right EXIF info and I am not sharing it all. (That doesn't mean that I lie about my settings)

Azrifel,

This is true, thats why you should retain your original file in case you have to produce it to DPC for any DQ questions.

- You can submit your details, ie: shutter speed, aperture, and other camera settings in the detail section of your submittal and nobody can do anything with them. This is only a problem if you upload the original file with the info.

I'd love to be able to tell you that data, but with a point and shoot camera that doesn't save exif's, I'm sorry I can't help more. :(

Yes.. some of the older cameras do not give you this information... That could be a good bit of information to include in your 'details' box if you are requesting CC comments :)

The same thing happened to me so I just open another browser window and just went to the same photo in the challenge results. Its kind of annoying switching back and forth but it works; I guess. |
