So my birthday passed this weekend, a little older is all. BUT, I had the best weekend ever for one reason - the grandkids!
A long story, but 8 years ago my oldest daughter decided she wanted to try living with her mother. That is the last Dani (my youngest) and I ever heard from her until a while ago. Then she, April, my oldest, called Dani to tell her she was an aunt. Then a few months later she called again to say she was again expecting. Then nothing for a few more months.
Yesterday, actually all this weekend, I was planning on doing a CC marathon. But I spent seven hours, yes, seven hours on the phone with April and today she came over with my grandkids. The first time I have seen them...and they are beautiful! (Ok, so I am a grandad and I am partial and biased). I spent the day with them today and all I am sorry for now is that I didn't take out the camera. I was just so excited about seeing them finally, I forgot until the very end of the day. My grandson was not going to cooperate at all, but my granddaughter did for at least one (below).
I am just so happy to have met them and that they called me grandpa (gosh, I feel old) and that they will now be a part of my life.
Dhaysia (pronounced day-sha) is an absolute gorgeous little girl. Very smart (when she wants to confuse me she speaks in sign language, not even three yet) and her brother is just a whip (parents know what I mean).
So just had to share.
Not the best pics I know, but more will follow I am sure. I wasn't worried about the camera, I was happy to see my grandkids! Tre would not sit still to get even one focused shot, but he is cute as hell.

That is such a touching story. You have given me a wonderful smile. My children also speak through sign language (out of necessity) and it can be confusing for others but comes in very handy in noisy rooms.
I am so pleased you made contact with your grandchildren and wish you many wonderful times with them.
Treasure them!!

Well thanks Mesmersaj! And all! Her curls I never said were stupid, just that you were not alone in having naturally curly hair.
I like it btw. |

I think I surprised her by being able to answer her in kind. She tried to fake me out with a few gestures, but she ended up being surprised by my answers. I think it is an easy enough skill to learn, just not enough people interested or touched by life experience to learn it.

Happy Birthday...
And she is adorable!!!
And don't worry, being a grandpa isn't the end, just the beginning of something else.
