Soon I'll be photoshopping with the best of them.
Photoshop, to be honest, scares the crap out of me. You all start babbling on and on and I swear it's another language. I'm not a stupid person, but I just get so overwhelmed by it all that I stick to the bare minimum (sizing, levels, hue/saturation, USM) and call it good enough for me.
Today I got intrigued enough by one of those Joey Grunge threads to try downloading the Dragenizer and see if I could figure it out. Three hours later I have this. Nothing great, but a definite improvement I think.
My original with minimal editing.
Grunged up a bit.
But beyond that, I have a new-found appetite for Photoshop. The way the Dragenizer action listed the steps, honestly it's the first time I began to understand how layers and paintbrushes and opacity and stuff work. Exciting moment for me. Still completely overwhelming, but in more of a good way.

That's the cool part about loading actions, and going back to see what happens in history mode. Learning by seeeing examples.

Downloading actions and playing with them is a great way to have fun and learn at the same time. Good to see you sliding down the slope, Elem! There's a huge pile of us all tangled up at the bottom, and we like how the pile rearranges itself more or less randomly into a new configuration when a new "volunteer" comes careening down the slope and smashes into us :-)

Well...one down side to Paint Shop Pro 9. I downloaded the action mentioned here and it's a no-go. :( Not that I'm a big fan of grunge, but I did want to see it for myself. Oh well...

Yup - You're on the slippery slope alright. Once I discovered layers that was it! - In a couple of weeks I was addicted. |

Thanks for the comments.
This is literally the first time I have ever used photoshop like this. Due to comments made in another thread, I feel like an idiot for having posted this. But I just want to be clear, I know this is crap work but I am learning. LEARNING. I've been shooting photos for about two years now. I feel it's time for some new challenges. Sorry if some don't feel I'm up to it. :P |
