Greetings...
I am planning to buy a camcorder sometime in the next week or so. I'm not exactly sure what I want just yet, but I believe I have narrowed it down to a choice between a digital 8 and a Mini DV model. I'm not planning to spend the money on a DVD camcorder at this point because I can hook the camcorder up to a DVD recorder and transfer to DVD that way if I need to.
What's the difference/advantage/disadvantage between digital 8 and mini DV? |

hmm... does anyone know of a site like dpreview where you can do comparisons of DV cams? I liked doing video's and I'm interested in DV, but I just don't like the film thing, and buying all those cassets.

Thanks... that answered my question about the difference, but I still don't know which one I want to buy. I guess the MiniDV is newer so I'll probably go with that. |

Digital 8 is supposed to be great if you have old 8 or Hi-8 mm tapes around and wnat to be able to capture those as well as they will play in the camera. I toyed with this same notion for quite some time. A buddy of mine got the Digital 8 and has never been able to play an old 8 mm in it. I decidied to go miniDV and love it. Another thing to consider is how will you be taking most of your footage - hand held or tripod. The newer cameras are so tiny that it is really hard to hold them steady. I went for an older Canon Optura that was about to be discontinued. It is larger and I can hold it steady plus I got a great price at B&H. |
