Please consider allowing the 'general discussion' forum to be ignorable like the 'rant' forum. |

The danger, if you want to call it that, with making too many forums "ignorable" is that people will set preferences and pretty much forget about it, and bit by bit the majority of site users may lose sight of DPC in its entirety.
I'm not sure this is a problem, exactly. It's kind of like people who only read the sports, or the local section of the news. But at least these people see the headlines of other sections, maybe... I don't know if this is a valid parallel. I presume John would say it's more in the nature of choosing to read The Washington Post, say, but not National Enquirer. I donno. I can see it would get wearisome having "artificial threads" taking up real estate on the front page if you don't ever read them anymore. But every now and then something useful, or important, gets discussed in there...
The bottom line is, would allowing members to custom-tailor their DPC experience to a few specific forums be a positive or a negative for the community? I guess really it doesn't matter; by FAR the mahority of DPC users don't participate in the forums at all, and most of the rest only rarely, so what would be changing, really?
Nothing. And I've answered my own question. So back to our regularly scheduled programming as I indulge my own preferences and return to the DPC version of "As The World Turns" (except that there's really only one "good" debating thread running, and no mud being currently slung anywhere that I can see).

How about a separate forum for Setzler.

If you ignore rants you miss all the fun!

Please note the second post - my suggestion one year ago tomorrow to do exactly this. I second this idea...or first it or something.

I'd like to bump this one ... there are so many non-photo related threads opened these days with polls and questions about the universe and life and everything ... I would love to be able to turn all forum categories on and off just like the rant forum. I know I can ignore individual threads, but that means I have to open up about 2/3 of the threads on my front page and set them to ignore ... :)
Thanks!
