Has anyone else found it a real pleasure to be working with sets of three images?
Its been realy quite a pleasure to have to think of 3 images and link them by different mechanisms. Can we have Triptych II back into the pot please.

I enjoy thinking in threes, it's different, and a challenge. But I don't enjoy having to use such small images.

Yeah agreed! Had an "action set" that I wanted to submit, but the size of the shots creates a loss of impact on the action, so I opted for something else.

i'd like to see a challenge that allows from two to four or five photos to be merged into one. Would make for interesting combos also

I've been trying different methods or process to cut my images, match the size and border them and haven't found an easy way yet...or maybe I have and it's just a plain old pain in the ass.

I'm trying to find a single image to slice into three that makes sense as a tryptich. For me that's a personal Challenge not to take three different images but use only one...

The hunt continues today...

Yes, definitely. It really adds a whole new dimension to photography. However, I am struggling with it. I've got lots of ideas and I've taken lots of pictures so far, but nothing seems to be working for me yet, and today's the last day. But I haven't given up yet!

Agreed ! It has been a completely new idea for me and made me really consider my pics with a new eye as well as going out to shoot with a different mindset. Not saying it is easy - I'm still working on my entry and John is out shooting right now in an attempt to get it right! Only a few hours to go for us ( midnight is about the latest we can stay up with work tomorrow) so a busy time ahead! If it's not right I WILL NOT ENTER - just trying to persuade myself else I'll spend the next week regretting I even tried and bombing!

A large part of this challenge is to make it look good at 640 px. In almost every challenge there is a photo sized 300 pixels or less, that could have done better if it wasn't for the size. I have a feeling that with this challenge, some shots that would have otherwise proudly hung on someone's wall, would bomb here for the lack of visible detail.

I entered for the sake of the update button. DPC Addiction...

Absolutely! I had a concept that I expected would display well in this reduced-height, "panoramic" format, and I shot with that in mind. Worked very well as far as I'm concerned. "Perfect" marriage, in mye eyes at least. Will the voters agree? Who knows....

Actually, I found a trick to get the quality I was looking for as well as not make it look like a "small" shot - but if I say it now it will make my entry obvious. It helped that my hubby and I are building full room-displaybox-type-bookcases right now, so we are doing a lot of "box size" and dramatic sizing on a roomsized scale. I took those lessons in framing and turned it to this entry. I have two or three more I want to take too - but I know if I do, then theres going to be several "oh no!Wich one do I enter!!" moments at 11:55 tonight. LOL

I had a blast with this contest. Unfortunatley, I was done DAYS ago and waiting for the voting to start has been AGONIZING. LOL

When I feel that way I usually bomb. But that's just me.

I've gone through 3 urban style scenics that didn't work so far. It's tough dividing up things that are busy even if it's been shot with thirds in mind.

I am SO excited!
I have just spent three hours working on my triptych and have entered it and I really like it!
After a few really crap entries, this one looks good and is what I envisioned.
Can't wait for tomorrow -Good luck everyone who entered.

I'm in the same boat :)

I entered something and I like it but it doesn't have that "wow factor" that seems to earn ribbons.
11/13/2005 06:51:16 PM · #16
This was all new to me as it is the first time I have tried anything like a triptych. But I found it interesting and fun to get three images to work well together. Great for the learning curve. I did have a little trouble with borders in PSE3 and will need more lessons but I got it done. And although the perspective may be opposite what the general preference is here I think it turned out great.

Now to see if you all agree!

I have mine submitted now, and I love it. I am SOOOOO afraid, however, that because of the size limitations, people will say it's too small. It's 640px wide, but the height is not quite as tall as normal. Ugh! :)

Same with mine...not a panorama per-se, but felt like it. I like it, but have no clue on how the voters will perceive it.

MY first one was like that but John taught me how to resize it so it has come out 640x444 which is quite tall and looks better. What size is your triptych, Laurie?

I just uploaded mine. It's going to be another one of those entries that'll make people laugh and/or get angry. I'm predicting a 4.8, but hoping for a 4.9. In personal satisfaction, I rank it up there with my favourite low-scoring entries.

Uugghhh!!! Tha size limitation is killing me! I can't seem to find just the right format :(

Oh well, back to PS :)

It's 640x308. I've tried various resizing and crops but this one is the one that looks the best so I'll just go with it. Le sigh.

the 160 pixel minimum had me worried for a while...

Tripwhat?
How do I do that?
11/13/2005 07:42:50 PM · #25
I've really enjoyed working on this challenge. I had never tried anything like that before. I ended up with something I love, which means, of course, that you will all hate it :)
