Discs are so cheap now it might be best to just make two in the first place.

Nico, my acceptance came almost two weeks from the date they recieved my images on the 18th of October. So maybe only a few more days....

Thank you, Nico. Just packaged in a crush proof box for the morning mail, what ya think, 3 stamps??
Better more than less.

BTW, guess I need a DVD burner (the need list never ends) 'cause only 11 images fit on a CD at Alamy sixzes, I had 15 ready for submission.

I went up to the post office counter and they figured it out for me :-)
You might also consider the 5 dollar shipping (priority?), i've heard that is a lot faster.

Thanks again. :)

WOW.... HOW GREAT IS THAT :)

That is a really nice photo brent. It paid off.
Congrats again.

I don't have much hope for anything that large with only RF image online there... however i have just changed my business plan a bit about a month ago and only RM are going on alamy now. Hope to make a sale like that one day.

what sort of flash did you use. Just regular off camera (on camera) flash? or did you put a diffuser on it?

It's a fair camera, and I use it alongside the 300D. Despite the difference in MP count, the SD9 images stand up very well next the 300D.

I use the SD9 more for landscape type work or whenever skin tones are not an issue. It has trouble reproducing both reds and greens well at the same time, and skintones can be problematic. Also, it deserves its reputation as a noisy camera. But, for all its foibles, the image quality can be astounding.

You can use LZW compression on your TIFF files, and fit more files onto a CD. Their site is remarkably vague on this, but we emailed them and they said it was fine as long as it was LZW.

That was with on camera flash. That's why it's so harsh. Shot with an old rebel and sigma 90mm macro on slide film.

I have to say I would be wary of compressing files. Getting the DVD burner allows you to submit a lot more images - and no possible loss due to compression.

LZW is lossless compression -- 100% of the original data is present when the file is uncompressed. It is essentially the same scheme as is used in making a ZIP archive.
11/11/2005 04:58:46 PM · #496
yeah, i second what generalE says. I have sent many disks to them with LZW (lossless) compression. it was VERY nice to be able to fit so many files on a regular cd. Photoshop even says it is a lossless compression when you click on it.

Next time I'll have to try the LZW out. Would love to fit a lot more on my DVD's. Thanks for the info guys.

I really need to read this whole thread, but what does their "no-editing policy" consist of? Do they allow any editing? Levels, color correction, etc?

Oh, and Brent, Congrats! That is super!!

No editing has nothing to do with photo post processing. They go through your images to check to make sure that the quality of the image is up to their standards. If you do poor post processing, they will reject photos for that. They are getting ready to limit "similars (those different views of the same subject". However, they don't go through the images you submit and choose which ones - you are expected to edit your own work. As long as your image quality meets their standards - they let you submit the subject matter you wish. You are not having to submit your photos to an editorial board who might only choose one or two of your shots.

just sent my first dvd (have send lots of cd's but finally invested in a dvd burner) :)

I also have a little sigh of relief, or will at least once i back up my things. Right now i am standing on thin ice with everything only in one spot. I DID buy an external hard drive to back everything up, but now that and my computer are both nearly full of only one copy of anything... need to start backing stuff up. :S
