I had a couple of landscpe entries to choose between. The family chose something very difference from this one, and by positng it here I won'tbe able to change my mind (again).

What do you think? Did I pass on a really good shot, or is this just a bit average, score wise.

Your family made a good choice, I'm guessing. On my work monitor, which is not the greatest thing since sliced bread, the buildings are dark and there's no detail...the tree in the foreground is overpowering and doesn't simply frame the cityscape...it overwhelms it. Of course I don't know what your other shots look like, but I'm thinking it was good to pass on this one. :)

Its a silhouette! The buildings are supposed to be dark with no detail.

Is it that bad you can't tell? LOL

Well, on this monitor, there is detail in the tree, and the bridge, and a few other places, and none in the buildings, which makes it look like rather splotchy. I didn't think it was a complete silhouette because of the amount of detail in parts of the shot and not in others. So no, I couldn't tell. :)

Since i don't need to stay with basic editing...is this better (slight crop, filled in the black with true black)

The original looks black on my monitor. Yeah, time for a new one and don't be askin' how old is the video card!

My needs list is growing faster than i can fulfull my wants list!

To me also its a dark photograph, you need to either lighten the sky and darken the rest ... or lighten the whole thing

He-he. I was thinking the same thing...it's a silhouette. Actually, I like it overall. Not sure how it would have came out in voting as there are going to be several camps on what a 'landscape' actually is. I'm withholding my scoring preference on this with respect to not influencing other's opinions. Now I sound like coolhar! ;^)

As for the qualities of the image as a photograph I like the use of implied diagonal lines (the buildings and the tree branch). The visible street may take away a bit from it being a true silhouette, but it is an interesting focal point as a leading line into the image. Something you probably couldn't influence, unless you had some trimmers handy, is the dead end of that main branch - it's a bit distracting. I know you've exposed for the sky...with the buildings being dark it feels like it should be sunset, yet there's not much red/yellow in the sky.

Overall, a nice shot. Would be interesting to see it shot from a different angle without the tree. The road would have much more impact then...of course then it would be a cityscape. ;^)

Exactly how it looks to me. I'm drawn a bit to much to the tree though. Maybe a photo a standing a little further to the right or kneel down?
