Maybe a few less animals already it took me longer than it should to recognise what some of the animals were (the calico on the beige background for instance). Seperated is definately better.

They are only going to be 8 x 10 right now. I'm leaning towards doing a dog and cat one for the groomers and kennels and then a varity one for the vets and pet stores.

I know about the background in the pet shop, drove me nuts but I didn't have any of my background stuff with me nor anyone to hold it up. I was on my own!

As for the market in the area, I talked to another photographer tonight who does mostly wedding but will do pet photography if asked and does the annual Christmas shoot for the SPCA every year. They did their shoot this last Saturday and he said they had about 85 people come through in the 4.5 hours they were there, most have been coming in every year from the time he's been doing this. He said that is a situation where you are in a huge hurry, get them in, get them out, get a great shot? Great! You don't, sorry, can't spend an hour doing this with so many others waiting.

He agreed that the Elmira area alone would not support a pet photographer but branching into the Corning and Ithaca are could very well support the idea and business. He was a very nice man, been doing the photography for quite some time now.

And judging from most of the shots I'm seeing in the paper that are sent in by readers, mine are above average of what the local person is capturing with their camera, pose and expression wise.

I can do the traditional if that is what they want but I want to be able to do more as well. Ya know?

Have you considered sending shots in to the paper regularly, and perhaps building a name for yourself that way? Enough shots in the paper could create a buzz, especially in conjunction with a news story about the local pet store...
