Hey Dea,
For me it is just a bit too flat and heavy on he left side. I think, for a poster anyhow, it needs to me more visually stimulating. The photos are nice, and I would try to emphasize them and make them pop a bit more. I did a 5 minute version of what appealed to me, but evryone has different tastes. Best of luck to you!

WOW! That is cool! Could you tell me what you did? This is just regular 8x10 size, not a big one yet, that will be for my window when I get that far. And could the background be the blue that is on my website?

You are the best!

Yes the one that Parrothead did is great, professional, but would still like the pictures to be divided somehow as in the second version of the original.

Like this?

With a white background, the black can be for the fancier places

I am glad you liked it. I do like the pics divided, but I personally think a darker background makes it pop a bit more. Try using a dark blue. I bet that would work too!

Yes I think a darker background works better, it is common practice to present photos on a black backing or background, just seems to make the pictures pop more. The blue/grey might work, give it a try and see.

How about this?

I need to stick with the white for now, expenses and all.

The space in the lower left will hold my business cards, a card holder will be attached. I can check these on the same day I deliver books.

I like the black, and I like the pictures divided, but I'm not sure I like the two together. How would it look if the white were gray or black? (or the whole backgorund another dark color?)

Reminds me of The Partridge Family. I'd probably try to carry a bit of that theme to the right, but I'm a freak.... "I think she loves me, la LA la la la LA la, la-la-la-LA-la-la-la-LA-la.

Moved one picture so the business cards fit and don't cover anything up

Well I see I'm not the only one that left my own work on the side & started playing...lol

Here's my take. Grabbed an extra pic from your portfolio. In the original, the text side just kind of all blended together, so that's what I was working on. Kinda like the right text & pic as a stand alone or biz card too.

I think the last two you did end up looking busy. I like your picture # 254714, or the one above.

OK, slight fixes. A wrong letter & the off centered look due to extra white space on the right were bugging the heck outta me..

Okay, now I'm getting flack on another site for the lettering, the pictures, the lack of quality overall. That based on the last poster I put up they wouldn't even consider hiring me. This is from someone I trust and has always been brutally honest with me so now I'm asking you, the photo community, are my pictures amature hour? Should I go strictly for the "polished" studio look? Because see, I don't want just the polished look, I LOVE candid photography, people and animals. But I can't seem to make this other person understand that. When I put up a shot of a child that isn't smiling from ear to ear I'm told to remove it from the public view because potential clients don't want the serious child, they want the happy child. Am I totally wrong in that the public has changed and while the traditional has it's place, the more candid, moments in life photography is more where it's at today?

Feeling very confused right now

how large are the posters oing to be?
Maybe a few less animals already it took me longer than it should to recognise what some of the animals were (the calico on the beige background for instance). Seperated is definately better.

okay...I just typed that you had a black and tan wiener on your poster and thought it was too cute but it didn't show up! hhhmmm....

more comments after reading your last statment (yeh i suck like that, i looked at just the pictures for a lot of the thread hahah)
I do find the pictures that are obviously taken in a pet store (for the cans etc in the background) a little (dont be mad) amaturish for someone looking to be hired as a professional. They are good pics, but the location is a little offputting to me.
Personally i think i would stick with one photo (i lean towards firstly the dog with the long hair on its ears (sorry not a dog person, dont know the breed) then to the green parroket above him as a 2nd).
All just IMHO you understand :)

One of the first rules of marketing is to provide something that your client wants. Have you done any market research to support your hunch that candid pet photography is what the market is demanding?

I'm afraid I'd have to agree with your other friend; the shots on that poster probably wouldn't inspire someone to hire you. Even though the individual images might be technically better than the average snapshot, overall they lack creative inspiration -- a "wow, I couldn't do that myself" or a "why didn't I think of that" factor.

You should absolutely shoot what you love, but you might prepare for a clientele that wants a more traditional posed image.
