Do you think the B&W or the color is better?

I love B&W, but this is one of those situations where color works best. Color... definitely color...

B&W is cool, but I agree...the color one is stronger.

This is too funny...... opposite here: I only sometimes like b&w, yet in this case I much prefer it.
Guess conflicting opinions like this one are the reason why I can never guess which photo would do well in a challenge. |

I'm a color person, too - however, I do much prefer the Black and White Fog picture. It seems to convey the mood of the fog more. |

I'd go for colour, too, unless you could manage black & white in colour. |

I guess it really is a personal preference. I tend to lean towards B&W when an image has a lot of contrast and detail, but color when the contrast is low and the focus is soft (like here). With the color I feel warmth, and that it is near sunrise. I lose that feeling with B&W. But maybe the B&W does convey the mood of the fog better, as Sammie said.
Regardless, I think it's a pretty neat image.

B&W gives you that chill goosebump feeling and the color doesn't. The color keeps your eyes on the forground and your attention stays on the wood sticking out of the ground. The stick happens to be near the point where the rules of third is.

Split the difference. The trouble with the color version is that it's a sort of muddy-yellow color, a bit of green cast to it, that doesn't present real well. Maybe desaturate the color a fair amount and shift away from the yellow a bit? I have the feeling that the color version has more potential that's untapped.
As posted, I prefer the B/W.

I like the monochromatic feel of the color. It has a nice mood about it.

I agree that the color version could probably be better if it was desaturated a bit. I tend to think fog works best in black and white.
You might want to take another look at the black and white version though. It looks like it has a sensor spot towards the top of the frame that isn't there in the color version. |
