For the life of me I cannot figure out why someone would spend good money on good equipment then wanna sell it cuz they its not working for them. It's not the camera it's YOU. If you bought your camera and expected to make money at it well guess what??? Most business are expected to fail for the first 3-5 yrs they are open according to Rev. Can. Also you gotta ask yourself, did you realy think you could make a whole crap load of money taking pictures??? If you thought yes then don't you think there would be more people doing it??? Do it because you love photography or you like trying new things with a camera. Once you have learned everything there is to know THEN re-think if you should sell your equipment. I personally SUCK at photography but I don't care. I wouldn't even dream about selling mine. I shoot for me and IF I happen to sell a print then great but if not then I still have my gigolo gig to make me some money. Stop doing for other people and start doing for yourselves and as I have learned from Joey and Slippy sometimes you have to get dirty (or lay in zoo poo as shown) to get the shot you want. Life is to short to cry about being broke. You can and probably will make "some" money at photography but not enough to live on. Live life for yourself and more importantly enjoy it.

One of the things I enjoy most about digital photography is, at the end of the day, when the kids have gone to bed after a day-trip to someplace fun with the family, sitting down with my wife and watching the a slide show of the pics.

Yea I miss looking at my photos with your wife too. Its just not the same without her here. lol j/k Your right tho, there is more to photography then just taking pictures or trying to make money at it. BTW, Slippy I need a stand in for Nov 12/05 as I have a high stakes card game to play. I can't discuss the terms & Conditions here as it is against the law here and in the US but remember... "no glove, no love" and no your not playing baseball. ;)

I want to make a few bucks on the side because the business that I am in is so unpredictable anyway, to supplement is a good idea.

Soooo, I spend more money on equipment, soooo I can compete in the same arena as established photogs, soooo I can get more experience, soooo I can get those great shots, sooooo I can fill up my book, soooo I can approach a publisher or editor and comfortably sell myself.

Then it starts all over again.

No, that's not my personality.

However, I am thinking of starting a thread on never participating in open challenges again with all the yayas' out there that really have no clue on a decent pix. Is this giving up?

Then vote low scores and tell them why. I don't think a comment like "did you really think this was gonna win a challenge" is to harsh to leave. If they wish to discuss it then they no doubt will contact you. ;)

Exactly what I'm doing... I've had the good fortune to be able to make enough money to buy a new lens or two and that's fine with me. I'm not a pro and don't plan on being one. If I have fun, do what I love, and can also make a little coin here and there to buy the occasional new toy, it's all cake. :)

I think he meant that in reverse...where people weren't recognizing his entry at his perceived level. Giving out low votes, silly comments perhaps...just a guess. ;^)

No, I just can't beleive, IMHO, what people perceive as a quality pix, or even an average quality pix with some of the basic rules applied, and they really are not.

I really don't care what my stuff does, I have traveled that road, and it really does not matter what DPC memebers, and nonmembers think of my work. My call backs tell me that I am doing something right in the arena that I am inspired in.

I just don't feel that open challenges are worth my time to go through when way below average pix are entered. I would rather spend time with fellow members that have taken some sence of quality into their entries, and be involved with that.

Sorry to hijack this thread.
