Not that I am any upset but just curious to know why this got so many 1s, 2s and 3s?
Not that 32nd place is bad but with 16 x 9s and 17 x 10s it should have been in top 20th at least - if not in top 10th. If you look other photos in top 30th, you can see they did not get many 1-3s.
Do you think too many did not understand what it was or thought it was fake? Or was it cropped too tight and flipping made it too surreal?

The place:
What is your opinion? Thank you.

I think simply because it wasn't too clear what it really was to begin with. I gave this a 5 personally. I would have given the wider angle a higher score. Just my opinion of course. |

I Think you were a big hit to 17 people! Thats all that really matters! I thought it was a good photo, but maybe it didn't say delicate to some. |

I think it's a fascinating and ethereal image, and I scored it quite high, but it's a little "tricky". It's confusing, it's not obvious. I suspect that many voters in this challenge weren't expecting to deal with a "puzzle" and voted it down accordingly. If this had been entered in "Reflections" I bet it would have done a lot better.

That was what I was awraid of when I make my decision of crop. But it just looked better when details was shown.
But no reason to give <4 if a photo is not understandable. It should be 5 at least if it is high quality anyway.

You can't say that. Each person's responsible for his/her own value system. It's just the way it works.

Yep. In my own little personal scoring method, if I don't quite understand the image yet it has technical merit, I give it a 5. |

Ya got a 5.9... Boo freakin' hoo...
Edit: Sorry, that sounded really bad so let me elaborate... Your shot recieved a very nice quantity of 9's and 10's. More than I think, without looking at it to make sure, than my 2nd place ribbon winner. Yet a bunch of people (I myself if I had enough time to vote on it) didn't appreciate it. In spite of all those people, you hit 5.9. I would be quite proud!

Been there and done that! :-P
You really got that crop outa the new rebel? What glass were you using? This is a classic example of a shot that I really like that I woulda scored down here cause it looks too digital! :-P |

That's how I take it too. This doesn't strike me as an especially whiny thread. Except for your unfortunate comment that "it's not fair" :-)
I gave up on "fair" in first grade...

I don't think it's a crop from the wider picture; I think the wider one is just another from the sequence. Clouds are different...

FYI: The challenge photo was not cropped from that outtake photo (was just to show the place wider). The challenge photo was just cropped a little from a close up.

I did not ment "it's no fair" but that for me it is no reason to give <4 for good picture because it is not obvious for some.
I did not get any good comments for ppl that scored it low in first place. This is the place to ask, is isnt't it? :)

If I remember correctly this had a validation request put in.
I'm just thinking maybe some voters thought it was illegal and voted that way. |

You may be right, if so I hope those voters see this post... the rules state that if you think a shot is illegal, request a DQ review and vote as if the shot were legal
I personally gave it an 8. Original, beautiful, fits the challenge. IMO, the bulk of folks who voted it lower were just not moved by it, the voting distribution does suggest that there was a wide disparity in hwo the image was perceived. Well, at any rate, it looks as though you made the voters think! I'd be very happy with this showing, and proud that you've got this image in your portfolio.

I gave it a 7. I also left a comment (just a simple one) and just noted that your marking of 'Helpful' is quite sporadic for the comments left on your entry. Fine with me. Really. Just a curiosity, that's all.

Just trying my best to add "Helpful" for those really giving something what do change or what they like in there ;) Is that the point for that? :D

Can be. It really was validated.
Too bad that making of "unreal" photos is bad idea.

It appears that you're marking as helpful only these comments that are praising your photo, not necessarily ones which are critical or actually helpful.
It's up to the individual how they use the 'helpful' flag; but that wasn't my interpretation of how to use it.

sami, i think that bear was dead on with his comment about the image being 'tricky' -- it's much easier to assign a score, high or low, to an obvious shot than to one that requires contemplation.
also, i didn't notice your title when i was voting, but i'm glad i didn't because i would have spent more time looking for letters in the branches rather than simply enjoying the shot...failing to 'solve' this puzzle might have frustrated some voters.

I'm glad that I'm not the only person who noticed that "sporadic" pattern. Also noticed that sz_1 has received more than twice as many votes as he has cast; and that he has received more than 5 times as many comments as he has made on other peoples works (with 80% of the ones he has made being marked as Helpful). Perhaps when you have been using a digital camera for that long (even longer than this site has been on the air) you've learned as much as you need to and there isn't anything left that the people here at dpc can help you with.

I loved the image, I scored it an 8. I wasn't too sure it fit the delicate theme as well as others in the contest but it is an excellent photo. |
