Next year during spring break the wife and I some of our friends are going to Lake Quinault and staying at Lake Quinault lodge, and we are alos going to visit and stay at Kalaloch Lodge.

My wifes friend is planning the trip so I dont have a whole lot of details right now. The wife and I have never been up that way and we are really excited about going.

What are some places we should check out?

Here are my favorites...

-Lake Quinault - of course check out the lake itself and the surrounding culture... good stuff
-Hoh Rainforest - awesome trails and picture opporunities
-Ruby Beach - if you want Washington's version of Oregans Canon Beach go here.. its awesome
-Hurricane Ridge - another awesome site and gives you an aerial view of the country side.

Be prepared to do some driving because everything is about 2 hours away from each other. Definitely worth the visit. If you are taking pictures make sure if you get clear skys to adjust your schedule and make time right then... its not often you get an opportunity for some blue sky backgrounds.

Enjoy the trip!

Thanks, Joshua.

I wont be driving or in control of our trip, but I will make these suggestions. We are pretty much going along for the ride.

I think we will be going up to Seattle and maybe up into Canada and do some whale spotting or something.

Right on Lake Quinault is the Quinault Rain Forest, a place I visited in July. Breathtaking. I have also heard about Ruby Beach.

You're lucky to be able to go up there - I would love to go back! It's an absolutely gorgeous area.

It's been a while since I've been there, but the Hoh rainforest is great. I'd love to go back soon.

Also do not underestimate the "rainforest" in the name. You are venturing into the wettest portion of the lower 48 states. 140" of rain a year. It doesn't "dump" like it can on the east coast, but it likely rains nearly every day. Bring appropriate gear and at least make a poor man's housing for your camera with freezer bags.

I visited there years ago and it was lovely!
We stayed in some cabins on the other side of the lake and rowed a boat to the north end of the lake. There we watched bald eagles hang out in the tree tops, very cool.

Yup, sping break time will likely be wet but the coast from there north is beautiful inlcuding Ruby Beach as mentioned.

Seattle is a great place for photography also. Be sure to see the Seattle Public Library, Pike Street Market and the waterfront area.

Try and find out what they have planned for driving routes and timeframes and I will likely be able to make other suggestions along the way.
