WOOT! My new camera is on it's way! I ordered the Fuji Finepix S9000 from Dell since they were kind enough to extend that line of credit for my business. I'm so excited, next week will be spent playing, getting used to and learning the new system! Then I put together my presentation package for the pet stores and kennels and groomers for pet portraits. YOu all will be solicited for your advice and feelings.

WOOOTTT!!!

I can't wait!

Congrats Neufer--

I thought you were leaning towards a DSLR, but that looks like a very nice Camera indeed,
Good Luck with all your future projects..

To Mavrick and MeThoS, not sure the confusion so let me explain. I got a line of credit for my business from Dell and needed a new camera. I was going to go with the Rebel but decided to go with this model to start since I'm still very green with manual controls and after doing all my homework I decided to go this route. I am still going to upgrade to a DSLR when I can pay cash for it and get a better deal. But for now, this is what I'm doing. Probably sounds stupid, I know but I just don't have the actual cash to go the DSLR route with the lenses and and and, so this will work for my needs, looks professional, will do what I want and get me started that much sooner. I know, now that I think about it, it's a dumb thing not to just spend the extra $300 and go with the Rebel but that was just the BODY!

Are you still confused? If so, tell me why.

Nice camera. Now you need few ribbons to justify the purchase.

Oh and also I'm TERRIFIED of a DSLR! Making sure it stays clean, dust, lenses, the works! I need to learn more before I can be comfortable with one and if I'm not comfortable with a camera I'm not going to be able to do much with it. Playing with MeThoS camera was a THRILL beyond belief but it also made me realize I'm not ready for that step yet, not until I learn more about them, lenses and such. For once in my life I'm taking it slow and learning before I jump in.

Because this is a $700 camera with a shutter lag and used Rebels are $450? lol

What you do is up to you - but I would HIGHLY recommend not shooting in poor light with that cam, like weddings. It will be a very bad experience.

Outdoors, with subjects that sort of stay still (well behaved children, HS seniors) that will work ok. With things such as dogs, cats - I can't imagine having shutter lag.

But, use it, make some $ and then get a dslr. :)

Yes, only $450 CASH, I don't have that cash, I wish I did, I would have gone that route. I'm taking a big chance here, I know and yes, I read all the reviews about the shutter and everything else. I don't plan on doing weddings, I would rather deal with Dogzilla than Bridezilla and her mother, LOL! But I think I can make this work and if not, go from there. Sides, if this works as well as I hope it will I'll have my cash in soon enough time and hopefully feel comfortable enough to upgrade to the DSLR.

And all the cameras I've had up to this point have had shutter lag and I still do okay! Come on, :(, be happy for me that I'm really going to try this! Please? :)

Can't stand it if Mavrik or MeThoS gets mad at me :(

I'm not mad - I'm happy for you. I just had a slow cam and I had the dslr and the difference is unreal for timing, expression... if you can use that, you can use that. It will be more difficult. It's got great size - 9MP. It's not a "bad" camera. And yes, the Rebel is cash, which I understand you don't have right up front. Like I said, do the work, save up, get the better cam. :) It's a start.

congrats!
Moving from a Fuji to a Fuji the learning curve will not be too big. I read overhte featureson the 9000...I wish i had those features on my old s602!
If you go to manual everything shutter lag is not too great, and you have burst mode. You can learn the manual bit and grow into a dSLR.

I have to learn how to do pet portraits real fast, and if it works, i will have lots of camera money...not sure what to buy, don't want to count my chickens too soon. A 20D of course, but the second i buy one, the 30D will be released!

Check out //www.fujimugs.com, since you are a Fuji person. Lots of wonderful photos and folks there, and you can see what the s9000 can do in the right hands.

Well...maybe, but not quite yet. So far the camera stats indicate only two entries from the European version S9500 and none from the S9000. Perhaps there are some in the current challenge.
