Hello everyone, as much fun as I am having with my first challenge I have a question for the group. When you are voting the challenges is it better to not vote on the pictures that you either dont like, or that you dont think fit the challenge, rather then kill someones score based on your own "feel" for the picture. I have not voted on ones that I didnt feel first met the challenge, and those that did that I just didnt like I didnt vote on. THen there are those that I felt scored low and I debated on wether to vote them or not. What is "proper" etiquette. Thanks and I must say I am really enjoying this site. My new dSLR has really upped my interest in taking pictures and this site has helped me learn and inspired me to do better. Thanks

if you dont feel the image fits the challenge you should vote accordingly. After all fitting the challenge is first and formost the objective of the game.
If someone enteres a really beautiful sunset in the carve a pumpkin challenge, i'm talking ansel adams wow, it isn't getting more than a 4 from me, because the photog missed the point. If it is a really cruddy cameraphone sunset, it's not even getting that four.
That said, we have some very creative thinkers here. If you don't "get" an image right off the bat, go back to it later. I often have those umm..err..ohh! AHHH!! moments with photos i didn't "get" at first and originally though DNMC. |

**deleting my sunset image from my cell phone**
What?? That cloud looked like a pumpkin. **grumble grumble** ;-)
I agree with mes. Voting is probably skewed MORE by people who skip photos because they don't want to feel bad about giving them a low score. Have fun. |

It's your vote to use as you choose! :-) Everyone chooses to use theirs a little differently and that's cool. And I really agree with kpriest about skewing the votes more by skipping photos rather than voting them down. :-)
Good luck! |

well this was my formula for making the selection. If I felt it fit the challenge I would start it at a 5, then make decisions to go up or down based on the photo, its composition, its originality, technical aspects(the ones that a newbie can understand) if I felt what the shooter was trying to "tell" me with the photo. take all of that, and then decide if I like it and go from there. However seeing that it might skew the voting to leave out those I dont feel fit I will adjust accordingly. Thanks for the input.
