I did some maternity shots yesterday afternoon. I'm getting around to doing some editing on them. Here's the first batch and I'll be adding some more. Some may look the same but have a more subtle glow filter added. I'd apprciate any comments. Thanks :)
ps...keep in mind I have only my little 717 and no studio lighting. I was at their home by a window.

I don't have any sort of studio equipment, so I set everything up in front of their livingroom picture window. I don't even have anything to put a back drop on. We are remodeling, so I took two sets of bifold doors and hauled them with me. I could set those up anywhere and then I used clamps to put a black sheet over that and added the same kind of black sheet on the floor. It really wasn't wide enough or tall enough for this shoot, but I made do. I had a small step ladder to get the angle on the first one (I think it's the first one) where I am up over them a bit. The rocking chair was in their nursery and in front of a window, so we did a few there as well.
The little blue top I purchased specifically for this shoot...bought at a local thrift store. Also at the thrift store I bought the white "drape" for around her belly. It was a curtain.
No flash. All natural lighting. And I didn't use a tripod. I took one, but I find them really a pain to get the right angle with, so I hand held. Probably could have improved the shots by using the tripod at such low shutter speeds. Oh well.
Thanks for the nice comments. |

Thanks! :) I just added another one also. It took a lot of editing, so I hope it looks okay. |

Awesome work.. in particular I love the one of her sitting on the chair.. its like she's looking at her baby in your lense saying: I'm here waiting for you.. with such love and playfulness.. Great capture!!
and the one I REALLY Really love is the one you called Cuddle.. such a tender moment... and the curves really draw your eye into the photo.

No problem! :) I have a tendency to be sitting here (and posting) pretty late, so my threads typically die an early death. I'm glad you like the pics. I'm working on tri-photo layout for them right now. It will be posted when I'm through.
It makes such a difference when the couple BOTH want to have the photos done and are comfortable. They were up for anything I suggested and I was so happy to get a mom-to-be who is comfy with her lovely state of pregnancy. (Although she is ready to have it over too!) She is due in a couple of weeks and she's really not big at all for that far along. We had the session planned for 3 weeks ago, but I told her she wasn't big enough then! |

These images are wonderful. You've caught a tender moment and a beautiful stage. I especially love the black and whites, even though I usually go for color. They have such a strong atmosphere to them. Be proud of this work.

One bump for the daytime crowd.
Also, I have one that is NOT at the link above. It is going to be a presentation that I'm going to mat and frame as a gift to the couple, so I didn't want it posted where they would see it. I put it in my portfolio here. They are a Christian couple who will appreciate the text.

Judy... excellent maternity images. I am not good at portrait photogrpahy at all but have tried maternity work a couple of times:

The only one I would drop is the #7 - the one with the green throw over the rocking chair back. Somehow I don't find the colors flattering the future mom - draw too much attention.
The desaturated version is just fine.
I love the rest! |

I don't think yours are bad at all. The biggest change I would do to most of them is a different background. The one's with the clock in the background have too much in them, but you have some nice poses. And the outdoor shots also have a lot of background things to distract.
The poses themselves are not bad. Some work better than others, but you got some great moments for the parents-to-be to remember! |
