Errr, forwarned is forearmed. Supplies were, as they say, portaged in. It is not possible to hold out in SIberia. Oh,no.

Well, there was a very narrow window in the early 90s where one could fly in on Alaska Airlines and explore. I did and had a fabulous time. MOre on this subject in this thread would really be hijacking. Oooops.
